So we all saw this coming. There has been some problems with people who have problems understanding that this is writing site! It is however unfair to not let everyone know that the grammar rule is going to be enforced much more now. Anyone who appears to not know about this rule will receive a warning, and if they flat out refuse to follow the rule then it will result in being banned.

We already have a rule about this in our rules page:

Use good grammar. This is a site for writers, so grammar counts! Please refrain from chatspeak like 'CUL8R' and 'BTDT', and do your best to spell-check your messages. This isn't like instant messenger. You won't fall behind in a conversation if you take an extra minute to proofread.

So not much has changed:

No chat speak
Use proper grammar
Do not fuck up the english language
Spell check!

It's very simple.

Of course, we will not be freaking out at you for the occasional typos

And there certainly will be room for members whose first language is not english to make grammatical errors as long as they're doing their best to be understood.

This is just the basics of the policy, Shaun will explain anything that needs more detail when he is not so busy ^^

Thank you. I cannot stand chat-speak.
But, I am atrocious at grammar and spelling. I'm still working on that little problem.
What if we put (sp?) behind it?

While (sp?) shouldn't be against the rules, what is to prevent you from looking it up on google? I do that whenever I have a question, and my question is quickly answered. You have the Internet before you, which means you have the resources to answer your own uncertainties ... so use it.

The only excusable times to use (sp?) may perhaps be in chat, but there I still recommend that immediately after you get your point across, you open a separate window and look it up to make sure you have it right.

I just did that for "gelatinous" the other day (and I had it wrong, too).
