Yes, in various internet related things we all mindlessly spit the word 'lol' at every opportunity that we class as funny, or of comedic value.

But, really, what is humour? Is it but a figment of taste? Or is it something of greater matter that deserves it's own place in society? Is it really a key essential in our lives, is it something that we couldn't live without if we were in absence?

I, personally, think its a figment of taste, the type of humour we prefer, anyway. On things such as psychological grounds, I'm not so sure.

Humor is absolutely vital I think. The entire point of living is to be happy, I think. Humor makes us happy. Now, it isn't important to society but to each individual it is crucial to well-being.

The whole point of living being "to be happy" is a controversial topic in itself, as there are both scientific and religious variations on it.

How about the human variation, do whatever makes you happy?

I think humor is taste. When someone says a racist joke people who don't like racisim will not laugh and think it's horrible. But who people who find racistt jokes humourus are usually the people who are racist.

Psychologically, I think humor has something to do with the pleasure center of the brain. When someone's depressed they're usually feeling some emotional pain and that's why I think people get high, so they can be happy. But like Shadow said "being happy" is a contreversal topic, there are different meanings and reasons behind it.

(Off topic note: Wow I think this is maybe the first or second time I've ever posted in the Debate forums -blinks-)

The world is a sad place when there is controversy over happiness :(.

The world has always been sad... -sighs- I'm not really sure if we can name one time in history where everyone was happy, or at least almost everyone. You can't make everyone happy, because "you can't always get what you want...". (That's my motto. Anytime I can't get something I sing that song.)

Humour is a massive part of my life. I feel it is something I would not be able to live without. I enjoy laughing with others, and I enjoy making other laugh. I see it as a subtle art form in itself. It is one of the greatest ways to express yourself, your views and your belives without having to be so serious about it.

Everyone has there own tastes. For instance, someone mentioned Racist jokes. I don't find Racist jokes funny if they are told by someone who I know is a racist. However, If my mate, Dino (GUMMYWORMEMPIRE for those of you who have seen him on the forum) who is massivly agasint any form of discrimination or nastiest no matter the cause, it would be funny. This is becuase I know I am not laughing at people that are different than me becuase I think less of them, just becuase of the concept of that joke. (Hard to explain really). If a keen racist told me a racist joke, It wouldn't be funny, even if it was exactly the same to Dino's becuase I know it was told out of spite and malice. There :) Everyone has there own tastes :)

Yes, that's another variation. There are several, really, depending which way you look at it. I don't think it would be possible to agree with all the variations...

I love laughing, humor everything. Isn't it essential to have some happiness in your life? Laughter which is normally caused by humor is one of the main causes of happiness. I couldn't live without laughing.

Wow... during a Reading Comprehensive Test I had earlier this week we had this thing on laughing. It was called Laughing Matters or something like that.

It was about how everyone laughs to make something more interesting. For example if you're in a conversation and it seems very bland you laugh during something at a random moment then it will just appear funnier. Or during a corny joke when the "joker" is laughing at the corny joke you usually can't help but laugh along. So it's kind of that "laughing is contagious" thing. Plus it also had statistics about everyone having their own unique laugh, just like how we have our own unique genes.

I really think that life would be dull without any comedy. We need to laugh; it has been proven that if you laugh you are healthier.

Some people say that instead of the goal of life being happiness, actually happiness is the way of life. But I really don't know how is that possible. How one can always be happy and satisfied? Maybe some some peope can be but not everyone.

And there are quite a few exercises in yoga that involve you to laugh and smile. You actually use about 16 muscles of your face when you smile. Imagine when you laugh. So I guess laughing and smiling is a good exercise. I have seen some people during morning walks, they raise their hand and start to laugh (no jokes cracked or anything). And sometimes you too feel like laughing.

A year back I joined Art Of Living Camp, where we we instructed to laugh without sound, with our teeth clenched, and third one with our lips tight shut. It was enjoyable especially the soundless one.
