Hello there.

As you may have observed, you clever thing, you, I am a newbie. Like so many others, I am a teenager filled with grandiose dreams, curious ideas, and rather spastic hormones.

What makes me different, you might ask?

A worthy question.

I have no answer.

But maybe that's alright. I will write and learn and grow and love, and live as happily as reality will allow; what more could one ask for, really?

You do origami?

I don't, but my dad does. He invents stuff, and then he sells books and goes to conventions and teaches people things. And that narrows down the number of people that I could be in real life.

Welcome to the site. I hope we can provide answers, not questions.

Yay! Hugs for everyone!

That sounds like a really enjoyable thing to do for a living. I myself do a bit of origami, but I only know the basics; nothing fancy.

I typically write modern, somewhat literary fantasy. Occasionally realistic fiction, instead. Poetry too, sometimes.

So tell us a bit about yourself, hobbies, music?

Well, I like reading and writing, of course. Some of my favorite authors include:
Garth Nix, Charlotte Bronte, David Klass, Neil Gaiman, Charles Dickens, George Orwell, Terry Pratchett, Lemony Snickett... and many others whom I'm ever so cruelly neglecting at the moment.

(By the way, though I am a young and female, I don't like Twilight; it does have good aspects, but whenever I try to read it I keep feeling like I have to fix it.)

Also! My favorite webcomic: Dinosaur Comics (http://www.qwantz.com)

Some of my current musical favorites are:
Hellogoodbye, the Beatles, the soundtracks for most musicals (Sweeney Todd, The Sound of Music), Panic! at the Disco, some Soul Coughing, John Mayer, Ingrid Michealson, and KT Tunstall.

I do play the piano a bit, but I practice even less. But don't tell my teacher that- she's fixed on the idea that I'm some sort of devoted Wunderkid.

I love to learn, so I try to explore at least one new idea each month. Currently, I'm trying to memorize the Bill of Rights (up to the eigth one so far!) and am discovering the wonderful complexities of string theory and all such associated topics.

That's probably more about me than anyone really wanted to know, but there you have it!

Oh, no. He folds as a hobby, not for a living. x.x

-reads rest of thread-

Piano? Fantasy? Sweeney Todd? Gaiman? String theory?

You're too good to be true. A temptation I must resist. -flees-

Anyway, why not join SBS? -points at sig-

Nix, Dickens, & Orwell? Beatles, Panic! & John Mayer? I knew our luck with newbs was turning!
Finally!
By the way, the thing you said about your piano teacher is exactly the same for me. I barely practice, and he believes me to be his most hardworking student. I struggle to imagine how much the other students practice? x]
So anywho, welcome again, this time I actually mean it.

So you don't always mean Miss Modly Mod :glare:?

Just kidding. I do like your music choices Crane. Sounds like the stuff I listened to in the summer.

Bit selective, are we? Ah well, I can understand. I've seen many a good forum drowned in chatspeak, fangirls, and angst.

Also, some things I'd neglected to mention: I'm vegetarian, agnostic, and a volunteer for many wonderful organizations. However, this also means that I've sorted out more moldy bread than even nightmares can picture.

And! I've posted my first poem here (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=2671). It's not my best work, but then, that's why I need criticism and advice! Be as brutal as needs be.

Neil Gaiman is brilliant, just brilliant.

Have you read his new book, The Graveyard Book? It looks really good. ^^

Yes, yes, yes all around!

I haven't read The Graveyard Book yet, but I've heard wonderful things about it. What do you think your favorite book of his is?

Lykaios

I've only read Coraline and Stardust, but they were enough to show me how brilliant he is at writing. I think Stardust was my favourite though, it's totally different to the film and I love that too, but the book had it's own spark and I liked they way it was a lot more dark and realistic too. Anansi boys and the Graveyard book are on my 'to buy when I have money' list. :P

What about you?

Mm... I think I'd have to say that my favorite books of his are Coraline and Good Omens.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have plans for this weekend. I loved the claymation they showed in the trailers; I really miss that sort of movie making.

The movie=awesome. It was creepy and suspenseful, which I loved. I think it is one of my new favorites. It would have been better if they were showing it in 3D, but 'they don't have the faculties'. They are connected to a freaking IMAX. But, I'm sorry, that was playing the Jonas Brothers. That is far more important *sulks*.

Hoorah for being competent at life!
Sometimes, I think that intelligent life is an endangered species. Then we get good newbs, and life gets easier.

Yeah. Welcome to YWO!
