To change your username you'll have to ask a mod and tell them the name you want to change it to.

A mod is a moderator. Although I'm not sure if only admins can change usernames or not. Ask one of the staff--found here (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showgroups.php). They'll know for sure.

Allowing you to post your own work, I believe...

Yes. Points are for when you post literature. In order to post any, you need a certain amount of points (ten for short stories and novels, four for poetry and artwork, I think. Though I'm not positive.) And you get points by critiquing others' work.
