Hello fellow young writers...Happy Mindless Turkey Murder Month!

anyone have any plans for Thanksgiving this year? Anything exciting that you can share with the rest of us?

I obviously do not celebrate Thanksgiving, as I'm english, but I don't know whether I'd count it as a holiday. The english arrived in what was to be future America and slaughtered all the Indians they could find, eventually. So, yeah... that's my opinion on that, then.

Yeah, well Thanksgiving isn't about the Indians. It's a lot like Christmas, only without presents. Get together with loved ones, share a fine meal, talk, gather, etc. It's sort of a communal holiday rather than a historical event. Although, there is some minor history behind it, but most people don't know what it is anyway.

Well, if I was an american, I'd probably appreciate it more.

Does the U.K. have its own holiday where extended families get together for a day or so? Because that's basically Thanksgiving over here.

None spring to mind. Ask Imelda, she'll think of one.

Christmas in the UK. That's probably the closest they get.

Yeah we don't have one. We have 5th November as a 4th July kinda thing, but it's not the same. We're really unlucky with our holidays ...

Well I'm Canadian so Thanksgiving passed a while ago. Does anyone know why the canadian date and the american date for it are different?

Cause the French were in Canada and the English were in America. Plus, our countries are different :P. Different events. Canada wasn't even inhabited until after England started establishing the colonies.

Hmm.... Aren't we the fun, celebrating, glass-half-full, type of group. :)

I just see it a a day for great food and being able to see my grandparents, aunts, and cousins. Of course we also always enjoy a nice family movie together every year like Saw or The Exorcist.

Happy Family Gathering Month then.

My family is pretty small - both my parents were only children (I have some second and third cousins, but I don't really know them). The closest to a first cousin I have is my mom's best friend's daughter, but they don't come down for Thanksgiving. My Grandma comes over and we all eat - my parents, my grandma, my brother, my sister, and I - and that's about it... we have turkey, stuffing, home fries, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and pretty much traditional thanksgiving food and that's about it... and then we have pie.

Yea my family is HUGE but we have no one who lives in BC and so usually we spend thanksgiving with my parent's best friends and their kids.. and we sort of consider them family now.

Thanksgiving was started because the people were giving thanks to God for allowing them to survive and letting them make friends with the Indians which helped them survive. All that said, we just make food and hten get ready for black friday.
