We've got a brand new feature: social groups!

Think of them like you do Facebook groups. Each group has a home page, a description, group picture, and a mini-forum of discussion threads.

The new Groups link at the top of the site leads to a page with a list of all the groups, which you can join.

At least for the moment, only members with 500 posts or more (and there are many) will be able to create groups, and nobody can make more than 2 groups. This is to prevent a sudden wave of new groups that would end up with next to no members. These restrictions may be lifted if not enough groups are made.

Got it :)

I thought I was going to have the first group but Andy already had one made :(

aw well... still, one of the first!

everything seems to be working fine so far Andy, I want to see people join and start a lot of discussions to see how it plays out.

I also had a question, there won't be any personal backgrounds right? Like people can't post a montage of Link or zomething on a zelda themed group right? (Basically I'm making sure that these aren't like myspace pages)

No, not really. Videos can be linked to, but you won't find music playing or movies auto-starting in social groups.

And yeah, I had to test to make sure everything worked right. Sorry. :P

Also, just a note: Members wanting to create official groups for YWO features (such as the Book Club, SBS Magazine, etc.), just ask an admin or moderator to make it so you don't waste one of your two groups doing something that we should do anyway.

Edit: And how exactly are we supposed to go to the groups place when the link for it on the navbar don't work?

For the time being, those of you wanting to go to the group section may do so by clicking here (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/group.php). This is until Andy fixes the problem.

Additionally, there is now a group for the Book Club. We need to start discussions about the book soon, so join up and let's get chatting!

I'm pretty sure I fixed the link moments after I added it.

Anyway, you can all find a list of groups you've joined on your profile.

Okay, there seems to be an error with social group image sizes. They should shrink, but they're not. I'm looking into the matter.

EDIT: I've done a quick fix, so everything should look okay now.

Hey, Andy, what's with the "messages" on the side of each group. It says there are five messages and when I click them... nothing happens. It just takes me to the page... Is it supposed to do that?

That seems to be the default.

There's really no other place it could lead, really. There's the group page. And that's it.

You can subscribe to Group discussions at the top-right corner of any discussion (Discussion Tools).

Link to all your Discussion Subscriptions added to the Groups menu.

Why is there a character limit on posts in group discussions? I had this really nice written out Dracula review for the book club, and then it wouldn't let me post it until I divided it up!

It's a default limit. I've gotten rid of it now.

The social group layouts has been changed a bit. You should now be able to see the discussions without needing to scroll down.

Good news indeed!

Are there subscription options for social groups (like for regular thread stuff where we get sent emails when a new post appears)? It would be useful.

Yes, I think I mentioned it before. You can see all your group subscriptions in its dropdown menu.

To subscribe to a discussion, when you're viewing the discussion, click Discussion Tools (top-right), then subscribe.
