What element do you love most about the fantasy genre? Is it magic? Fantastical critters? The stories? Pick one and let us know why!

WOO! First post. The magic. I love all the spells and creatures and heroes. Hell I like them all. Shit. I have already polled. Grr.

Everything? Or... not the happy endings, though. I'm not sure, actually :p. Maybe the magic and the stories.

I love the art and just the idea that it is different than our modern world. Writing is it just as fun - being able to create your own world from scratch is exhilarating (if not time consuming >.<).

I like how the storylines are interesting and intricate enough to hold my attention--not much can do that. And how the (good) stories always have larger philosophical meanings, and yet it's not boring at all (the way a lot of philosophical work is).
And the magic and the animals. Yay magical animals!

I've never really been into fantasy myself. I'll pick other. I like Tolkiens fantasy, basically. I always struggled trying to read those books, but I can't deny the absolute depth and beauty in his worlds.
My favourtie thing about fantasy is tht they rarely ever work without a large background and a detailed world to set them in.

Critters and the magic. I like it when those two concepts are original. ^^

Nobody likes Happy Endings? Hahaha :P. I put the cover art. Seriously, some of it is so pretty . And the story, when you can connect clues to make theories for future books ^^.

...dammit, I forgot Happy Endings! I mean, when the hell is there ever a happy ending? It's so original!

If you don't have a happy ending in an epic, then everyone dies and people come kill the author. If they DO have a happy ending, the epic ends up cliche and boring and people kill the author.

That's why I've gone on the sci-fi, rather than fantasy. ^^

Well I've never even finished a story so I don't have to deal with that problem .

I love how in fantasy, no matter what happens, anything is possible. That and the imagery is awesome!

I'm a fan of the magic myself. I mean hundreds of people can be strong, or smart, or funny, but able to control fire? It's a little less common.
I don't know, I've just always been a fan of the spectacular.

If we can't do it, we always ponder on the "what if we can."

I think I'll go for the story, that's what I voted for. But really, what is not to like about fantasy??? ^.^

I love fantastic writing because you can do anything with it. It can be something completely new and different.
I mostly like the art and the stories. The art the most though because I'm more of a visual person than a words-on-paper person when it comes to other people's work.

I don't usually read fantasy.
When I do, it's because it has fantastic and fascinating hero.
Protagonists that are fun and quirky make me happy. :]

Actually, what I like the most about fantasy stories is that they engross me in another world that makes me forget about what my real life is about.

That reason is generally frowned upon :\

So......... ?????
Can't I enjoy that aspect of reading fantasy? I didn't know that reading a book had another purpose other than gaining knowledge and/or out of fun.

I myself find the villains of a story a lot more interesting than the protagonist (usually), so I vote Other. Oh, and Maps. Gotta have a map of these strange lands.

I love maps...
And the spells..as in, I love it if a word like Oblivate reminds me of the french oublier, that is to forget.
I love the intricacies of the words and names in fantasy novels.

I'll have to go with the easy one - I enjoy getting wrapped up in a conflict so epic it makes my everyday worries seem downright benign in comparison. And good fantasy inspires me to write the same :)
Not a huge fan of the maps, though; I find that to be a rather painstaking process at times...
