View Full Version : I hate my fucking parents!

Sorry, I had to let all my anger out, and hopefully, you will understand.
I found out, about two hours ago, that my best friend got into Britains Got Talent, and I said to her : "Good for you!:D", but inside I was pissed of that I didn't get through, so I told my mum over tea about it. Then about an hour ago, she and dad called me downstairs. Dad said to me :"Your not going to like this but..." He hesitated and looked at my mum. I was dreading somthing bad like "Were not going OZ for a holiday next year." or "We have to lower your pocket money because we are short." But no, what was it : "You did get in, but we said no, because we wern't prepared to get you up there at such short notice." I was apalled and horrified! They had kept this from me for weeks and waited until I was already upset that someone else had got in to make me even more upset by me getting through, but not being at the audition. If they had told me when they made the desicion, I would have been a bit better, I still would have cried and been angry, but not this angry to think that they would think I was so immature to not be able to handle being told there and then. Better yet, they could have talked to me about it when they were MAKING the decision, that way we could listen to each others opinions and such and come to a final desicion between us. I am so fucking angry. It sounds like they didn't want me to pursue my dreams as a fucking singer!
And I don't think I can handle school tomorow, let alone having my braces being fixed. And Lily, if you are reading, tell Lydia that she might have to wait till friday, because I am so annoyed to finnish of the critique and I might not even be in. And plus, my authodontists is during lunch so....
Yeah. Hope you respect me through the awful time.
My eyes are now swollen, and I am refusing to sleep...

Well, there was a thread that I made for this, but meh, this'll do for now.
While I understand your grief, you must know that almost all parents are like that. Mine didn't support my idea of being an animator and author either. But guess how I gained their support?
I didn't freak out. I showed them that I had such a talent for it, and that I would rather die than be a doctor or lawyer (not like there's anything wrong with that for others) but I did it with respect, albeit firmly. Try moving them to your side bit by bit, and brush away other things. I've been there, so don't worry. ^^
Try to freak out in a pre-existing thread next time, though.

I swear to god i know how you feel.
The same thing actually happened to me.
Except it was like this comercial thing that i was chosen for, and I was like 10. But still, i felt so betrayed. It's not fair at all and I really (i know this is cliche but w/e) feel your pain.
Don't give up your dreams to be a singer if theres only one thing stopping you.
Be determined.

I'm so sorry :(. If that happened to me I would be so pissed off. Hell, I got pissed because they wouldn't let me go to the Harry Potter midnight release :P. Then again it was more because my Dad is a prick but whatever. I guess the best advice I can give you is don't give up. I mean, there must have been tons of singers that didn't need to be on t.v to get discovered. If you work hard, and maybe get an agent or something, then you can still accomplish your goals. Anyway, there is always next year. Maybe your family can change some things around so that next year you can audition again and go (if you make it).

Relax, there's no future in "careers" like singing for 99% of people; honestly, I think you'd be better off listening to your parents when they say you should find another path. If you just wanted to maintain a singing hobby through this competition, then I fully agree with you about how your parents shouldn't have halted that. But don't make it your #1 priority to become the best pop star in England or whatever, because it's probably not going to happen.
But yeah, sorry, etc.
(Hmm, this post may have come off as kind of mean but I didn't intend it to, so please realize that. I'm just giving my honest opinion.)

You should be more realistic about the situation. I understand how you feel, but missing something so small is not something to pull your hair out over. Singing is a career for the ones born to do it. I'm being cold, but your chances of becoming a great singer are less than 2%. I would suggest focusing on something more realistic...like a real career, and do singing as a hobby. If you focus all your efforts on singing and exclude the important things in life (education), then you will fail miserably. Sorry, but I'm just giving it to you straight, move on in life. Stressing over stuff like this is bad for your health.

Writing isn't a realistic job either... getting published is about as difficult as getting signed.

I want to be a Forensics Specialist working for the FBI or any other organizations. I will be writing novels as a side hobby, so my plans are very realistic.

But whatever. That doesn't mean i'm going to stop pursuing my dream just because its hard!

Actually, both of you have very good points. My view is, aim high, shoot low. You might not reach the goal, and that's being realistic, but you can gain something else along the way, and who knows, it could be a lot better. My goal for my novel is to beat J.K Rowling in terms of sales. Now, that may or may not happen, but by trying as hard as I can, I better my chances of becoming a bestseller, which is satisfying enough. ^^
Then again, there's no judging what goals are or aren't realistic to some people. Others are more capable of accomplishing greater things than others because, let's face it, some people are just better at other things than others. If I was to face Zaph in a kickboxing match, I'd get creamed in three (I'm being optimistic when I say three) seconds flat. Now if Zaph were to face me in an animation challenge, well, I don't like to boast, but he doesn't stand a chance. So, who knows, maybe Lizzie can make it, and maybe she can't. If she's got the talent, then I have full confidence in her. If she doesn't, then she's better off listening to her parents.

Just saying that many people here do want to become authors. I want to be an English teacher and write. Or maybe I'll own a book store. Or be a journalist. Who knows. Anyway, point is that there is nothing wrong with dreaming big (clique but true).
EDIT: I like how you put that Raffie.

I hate my parents all the time no matter what they do. They're just some un-fair bum openings. I actually had a dream about killing my dad... but I was an assassin and stuff... but aside from my weird dreams. I always hate my parents, there may be some love deep deep deep down in my heart, but I just don't like them.
My future seems realistic in a way. I want to be a director/script writer, my back up job is being a psychologist.

Boast? How long have we been pals and still you don't know me very well. Please, you must be referring to Azrael, because I don't boast. I merely state the facts. I only used animation because that was the best example I had. I didn't use writing, chess or sciences because those parts are open to debate. Your kickboxing and my art are not. If I went up against you in terms of kickboxing (or golf, or girls, or weight-lifting), I would most likely get killed. If you went up against me in terms of animation, paintball or a game of Go (that's a Japanese game of five in a row) you stand a 90% chance of being obliterated. It's not a boast, just a statement, and if you noticed, I didn't deal in absolutes, conveying those facts as probabilities. We're all good at something that others are not. Some (i.e. you) more than others (i.e. me), and as such, we should stick to those skills and if we set a 'highly ambitious' goal corresponding to our skills, we're not setting unrealistic goals because we stand a chance of getting to where we want. Since you excel in Sciences, setting a goal as a chief forensics investigator is not an unrealistic goal. It's an ambitious goal to you, but it's an unrealistic goal to me. Do you get where I'm trying to go? I'm not boasting or anything. If I was boasting, you'd know. I wouldn't do it in some thread like this. This thread was meant to help out Lizze, and I'd like to keep it that way. ^^

Agreed. My parents may have disagreed with me for a while before I slowly whittled away their defenses and brought them over to my point of view (maybe I should be a lawyer) but at least they were very open to me about things. I didn't freak out, though, which was probably one of the reasons why I was successful. :D

I know how you feel, kiddo.
Believe me, I know.
My parents aren't very enthusiastic about my songwriting and performing and all that. And honestly, I can't blame them. Getting signed in today's record industry is very hard.
I may be recording and performing and doing all that, but deep down, I still don't think I'm ready for a record deal.
You're young, and if you got onto a tv show like that, you either were good, or REALLY terrible. I am assuming it is the former.
Listen, you got hone your craft. Work at singing.
Perform live.
Sing everyday.
You'd be surprised at how much better you sound after weeks of practice.
Build your confidence, singing is a job like everything else. People may say you can't make a career out of it, but they don't really know that.
Cruise lines look for female vocalists all the time.
Hotels, choirs, all of those thing need singers, and yes, you CAN get paid to do what you love, sing.
Don't ever let someone tell you you can't do it. People told me that I'd never get anywhere as a singer/ songwriter and here I am, recording and making profit by selling my CD's.
There's indie record labels all over the place, if someone like Geffen or Epic records doesn't take you, sign with someone else.
If you're good, SOMEONE will sign you.
But before you do all of that, start at square one.
I started there.
The Beatles started there.
Now you have to start there.
Run down your dream, kiddo, and don't let anyone or anything get in your way.

You were destined to write songs and perform them, Zomb. Still, singing songs for bars and hotels won't get her anywhere in life. She should focus on school more than singing, but I'm not telling her to forget about singing.

Thank you, Zaph. :P
But, yes, unless you're getting record offers left and right, school is essential. At least a few years.
Like I said, you're young. You know what I was doing when I was your age, Lizzie? Playing baseball and worshiping Tony Gywnn.
Never in a million years did I think I'd be writing and performing and all those wonderful things in between.
I'll be honest, working as a musician is hard, hard work. You have to get used to rejection, harsh words, tough crowds. Its all part of the job, just like any other.
But its also incredibly rewarding to hear that your song or your voice made someone smile or cry or got them through a tough time.
But since you only missed out on a tv opportunity, you can use that time to train your voice.
Getting noticed is not a high priority for your age. You shouldn't even think about fame! Fame is not what being a singer is all about. Its doing what you love and making a living for it.
But enough of me.
You've probably had enough of my blabbering.
You have years ahead of you, Lizzie. You might even change your mind about this. I wanted to play in the MLB when I was in 7th grade. I didn't want to sing songs! I couldn't even sing back then!So don't worry about it. Its okay.
Your voice hasn't run away forever, its still there.

Shoot, a three-in-one martial art combo. Forget about me getting killed. Try vaporized. :O
Yes, Zaph is one of the lucky few who's parents actually agree with everything their child wants for a career. If people out there are in his situation, they should do everything they can to keep it that way. As much as we hate to admit it, parental support is a big help to any potential careers we might have in mind. As much as you might hate it, Lizzie, you stand a better chance of making it as a singer being helped by others, and not doing it one your own.

Ah, I hate my parents, can't stand to be with them, but if they do something like this, I don't freak out. I get revenge. Obviously, that isn't the right choice for some, but I have no love for my parents and once I'm out of university, I'm severing my ties with them.
Anyway, before I rant on, I agree with Raf. My parents stopped me from taking the choices on my GCSEs, so I only got to do one subject that I wanted to do, but know what I did: sucked it up, said "Fuck you" to them literally and worked hard to ace almost everything in the subjects they forced me to do. Why did I do that, instead of rebelling and not doing well at all in those subjects? Because my dad has shit for brains and can't stand it when I get good grades. When I tell him I've got an A or B in an exam, he won't say anything and grit his teeth.
I also agree with Zaph, on some level. Having a back-up is always a priority of mine, so have a second career there as well as your singing. But put your singing first, always. Never lose sight of your dreams or what you're good at.
Basically, not going on BGT isn't the end of the world, you can always do it again next year, but also get back at your parents for doing that, if that's what you feel like doing. Do something you know will get to them.

I have no fucking clue what I want to be. My parents suck. Well, I love my mom but my Dad is horrible. He is seriously an idiot. My mom has to pay him 20000 dollars A MONTH just because she owned a business when they divorced. That has been going on for about 2 years. He has blown at least a million dollars.
