View Full Version : Search Plugin for Firefox, IE 7
We've added a new section for Downloads (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/downloads.php), which can be found in the Info Center by clicking the blue book.
To start it off: if you use Firefox as your browser, you can go there and download a plugin that will let you search Young Writers Online from your toolbar:
http://www.youngwritersonline.net/downloads/ywoFireFoxSearch.jpg
The results will show up in Google (like this (http://www.google.com/custom?q=writers&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sitesearch=www.youngwritersonline.net&domains=www.youngwritersonline.net&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&num=20&hl=en)). Needless to say, this is a faster way to search than by going to our Search page (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/search.php).
EDIT: The plugin now works for Internet Explorer 7 as well.
I hope to get the Downloads page filled up with more stuff. At the moment there's a desktop wallpaper I'm working on, though it still needs work. :)

No, it doesn't work for Internet Explorer 7.
Well it's a cool idea anyways.
*Goes off to get Firefox*
Darn. Thanks for checking, though. I'll see if there's a way to add one for IE 7 tomorrow. There's got to be a way. But for now, sleep.
I made some changes and tested it in Internet Explorer 7. It should be IE-compatible now. :)

I use Firefox, and I've downloaded the plug-in. I have IE also, and the plug-in seems to be working on there as well.
Phew! That means it's definitely working properly. Which is a nice bit of relief. Thanks for the input, Carraka.

Yeah it works for mine now too.
But anyways while we're kind of on the subject, can you guys tell me the advantages of using Firefox? I have it but I never use it....maybe I should?
Hm..you know I actually don't know the advantages of firefox, I use it all the time, just not sure why though... it'd be interesting if someone could explain the advantages here!
Here's a short article comparing IE7 and Firefox 2.0
http://www.webuser.co.uk/specials/98590.html
On the Mac, Firefox and Safari are the two most popular browsers, so Firefox is a major competitor on both platforms. I mainly use Safari, but sometimes Firefox is able to do useful things that it can't. I haven't switched entirely to Firefox because most of my bookmarks and such would be a pain to copy over.
