View Full Version : NaNoWriMo Tips
Okay, for everyone dealing with NaNoWriMo stress, here are a few quick points I thought up to help the word counts go faster.
Add more if you have any.
Do it in parts. Doing 1666 words in one session can be a headache, so why not split it up? If you're waiting for 15 minutes for something, see if you can get 200 words crossed off.
Jump around. If you're writing a scene that, for some reason, is just going REALLY slowly, why not put it aside and write some of a more interesting scene for a while? Don't put it off forever, obviously, but nothing in the rules says you can't scene-jump.
Try it with music. If you're constantly checking your current word count, then you're not thinking about the actual story enough. If you have any music you can use to set the tone, to put yourself more in your story, then that may help move the writing along.
Hey they're some really good tips. I'm not doing NaNoWriMo, but here are some things that help me when I try and get alot of writing done:
1. Shutting myself away from the world. Locks on doors help. Tell family members/housemates to leave you alone, and scream at them if they don't. (Hey, works for me XD)
2. Ignoring or turning off the internet. This takes self control. Lots of it, especially if you are stuck on a scene.
3. Force the words out. Turn off that editor/annoying voice in your head that tells you that nothing is good enough - tell it to shut the hell up: you're writing what you want to and to hell with what your inner editor wants.
4. And when you're on a deadline, don't wait for inspiration to come. Go and find it.
And.....that's all I've got for now. These things mostly work for me...depends on the people! Good luck, guys!!! :)
