Oh! Oh! I have a debate! Okay listen up every one! Me and Zaphkiel were talking about this this morning.:D

Japan has just released the new maid robot! I picks stuff up, put's clothes in the washer, and mops/sweeps! My point is...do you think Japan is becoming the worlds most advanced nation in our society?

Here's live video!:

I have to leave for school in like a minute so I'll be back later with more input

for now I'll just mention the maid very quickly.

It looks really cool and all but I'm not convinced completely :P First off who opened the door to the dryer for her... it... huh?

Even though I'm not convinced over the robot it is a good step forward... and for the record I absolutely love Japan, so it could be my vote too possible when we get back... can't wait until Shaun gets in here though :P

Depends in what ways. Japan isn't the country with the vastest, nor the most advanced, military, for example. It seems to be the leader in small-scale technology, such as computers, video games and such. But it hasn't got the most advanced buildings, that would be Dubai. There's already been several androids like the maid bot made, not just by Japan but mostly Japan, including a robot that could speak to people in a basic language (i.e. say hello to them, ask how they were, what they did for a living and such and it could comprehend them and respond accordingly).

That's true! Still, we can't forget that Japan is also the country coming out with the most Prostetics for humans. I think that gives them a few points as well.

I agree with you, Uriel. Japan leads the world in robotics, possessing more than half (402,200 of 742,500) of the world's industrial robots used for manufacturing. It also produced QRIO, ASIMO, and Aibo. Japan is also home to six of the world's fifteen largest automobile manufacturers and seven of the world's twenty largest semiconductor sales leaders.

Thus, it is the leading nation in computer technology. Every other faction is questionable.

They also have the best automobiles!:D

True, they have the most ADVANCED but not necessarily the best. That's based on opinion.

True Japan tends to be more technological in terms of mobile phones, robots and gadgets, but the problem lies in the fact that Japan is overpopulated and thus there is alot of homeless people and starving people While the likes of Britian and America may not be as advanced in the gadget departement but have more resources and therefore are able to look after their people better.

So gadget wise yes they are but economically wise no they are not.

You don't think there are a lot of homeless people in England and America? And due to the credit crunch, England and America's economy is falling.

That's true, our economy isn't doing to well at the moment.

I said "falling" not "failing". It hasn't reached failure yet, but many people have become bankrupt in England and America, so we can't say our economy is better than Japan's, at the moment.

No, Japan is not the most advanced nation. Why? Because there is an emphasis on the word "nation". Just because Japan has invented a lot of truly advanced technologies doesn't make the nation itself advanced. How many people have this robotic maid? None? Twelve? A nation becomes advanced by its new inventions when information/technology becomes more readily available to all those it pertains to (i.e. we might create a machine gun that fires around corners, but if nobody gets to use that gun in the military, it's pretty much pointless to have, or say a new cell phone that wipes your butt, but only a bunch of super rich people have it).

So, while Japan may be developing things that are truly astonishing, it has yet to implement all those new technologies into its society. Right now I would say that Japan and America are pretty much tied for technology, with the big difference being that Japan is well on its way to drastically overtaking us, while we're just sitting around twiddling our thumbs.

I expected something bigger than that, Shaun, haha. I still stand by my argument, though, that Japan is more technologically developed. But that doesn't make it the most advanced nation, only in technology. It doesn't have the most advanced military, for example, nor the most advanced space travel programme.

Shaun

How they utilize their technology is a big factor in their advancement. The U.S. utilizes technology in almost every aspect of our culture, whereas the Japanese, at this current point, don't. What I mean is that technological advances in America spread across all boundaries, thus one advancement in one field bleeds over into another field. The Japanese are geniuses, don't get me wrong. They have some of the most amazing things you can imagine over there (science fiction in the making), but they aren't, at this point, making those things available.

Shadow

True, but obviously, those things aren't cheap. You can't exactly spread them around. True, it might not cost a great deal to make, but as it's something people are going to want, they're going to raise the price a lot so only the wealthy can afford them.
