I have just recently been introduced to this series, I personally fell in LOVE with it. It sorta reminded me of the Twilight Series faintly, but not much. The reason for that is because there are Vampires and Werewolves in the books, but the plot is TOTALLY different.
"City of Bones begins with a sixteen-year old girl named Clary Fray, who lives in New York with her mother, an artist. She comes home one night to find her apartment ransacked, her mother gone -- and a slavering demon ready to tear off her head. Once the demon's dealt with, Clary follows the clues to her mother's disappearance into an alternate New York filled with hideous demons, hard-partying warlocks, not-what-they-seem vampires, an army of werewolves and the scariest thing of all: the secrets of her mother's past. She also finds herself torn between two boys -- her best friend Simon, for whom she's developing new feelings, and the mysterious demon hunter Jace, who has a past more tangled than her own. She becomes a part of the secret word of the demon hunters, or Nephilim, and as she does discovers she might be more connected to them than she originally thought. City of Ashes continues Clary's adventures with Simon, the demon hunters Jace, Isabelle and Alec, the warlock Magnus, and the mysterious Raphael. City of Glass takes the characters to the demon hunters' exotic home country, Idris."-From Mortal Instruments Website
I give this series 4¾ stars out of 5. I recommend it to anyone interested in ANY fantasy.

I loved the first two books, but haven't read the third. I also recommend this series to anybody who needs something to read.

i loved these books and was really pissed when it turned out the way it did. Although you find out in the second one that it's very obvoius that they will never act like brother and sister

Hunh. I hate to be the downer in the group. I only kind of liked the books. The last one was the best and the worst in some ways.
The idea was wonderful. All these worlds, these demons. And honestly, the history of the characters, the action around them is also wonderful.
I have issues with the characters. Especially Clary. I have real issues with her.
I'm a Tamora Pierce fan if that says anything. I like women with spirit. It seemed as though Cassandra Clare had all these characters saying things about Clary that weren't true. She did stupid things and made stupid decisions, all driven by this one guy. This is also why I have a problem with Bella from Twilight. People like this DON'T exist. If a guy dumps you or doesn't want you, you find a way to get on with your life. It's almost as if they have no PRIDE. I don't want them to be men with boobs but just...have a little backbone. Clary should be more like Sophie, from Howl's Moving Castle, the book. She had SPIRIT. The truest statemnt was when in the third book she was called a brat who messes up everything.
I like Jace before the end of the last book. He became a real spineless punk-- lost everything I like about him. In the second book, he was like he never wanted to hurt a girl as bad as he wanted to hurt Clary. That was cool. When he was losing it in the third book, that was awesome. But then, he just, I dunno.
I like Isabella. Despite the fact that she is kind of sterotypical, she's strong, she's tall, she's insecure.
And the adults all share one voice. The teenagers are just like American teenagers, even though they were born in another culture and another world. That, among other things, bothers me about these books.

I won't read these books simply out of principle. She landed her book deal as a result of plagiarized fanfiction which she profited from to begin with. I have heard from those who read both her fanfiction and these series that the series heavily borrows in characters and content from that fanfiction.

Ok, so I know some of you have a problem with this book series, but I would like to say, when you guys where saying that and I quote,
"She did stupid things and made stupid decisions, all driven by this one guy. This is also why I have a problem with Bella from Twilight. People like this DON'T exist. If a guy dumps you or doesn't want you, you find a way to get on with your life."
I disagree, because the whole point is that Clary CANT get over Jace, even when they thinks their brother and sister, because their IN LOVE. When you truly love someone, you can’t just get over them, as one person put it.
That’s the way love works. You NEED to be with that person, or you feel like you’ll die. If you don’t truly love someone, then its true, you should just move on. But crushing on each other wasn’t the way Jace and Clary were suppose to feel for one anther.

I'll admit I only read the first one, but I did get the whole Twilight stuff and to me, it wasn't enough detail on character. Like, when I went through reading it, I could only kinda relate to them, Clary didn't seem real to me at all really, this girl everyone helps a bit and only does a little bit in my opinion and then everyone goes on about everything like she's amazing, she just seemed unrealistic.
I like the concept like it has been mentioned, I just did not enjoy reading her style of reading in the first book. I might pick up the others if I have nothing to read but other than that, I'm not raving about them.
