Social Groups Coming Soon

I admit I haven't been on YWO much lately, mainly due to midterms and general increase in doing stuff with friends on campus.

Anyway, YWO is going to get a neat social networking update soon, during the next software update. It's called Social Groups. It will be sort of like the Fantasy Club and Movie Discussion Clubs we have now, but with a few differences.


Social Groups will get their own pages, with discussion threads, member listing, and a group icon chosen by its leader.
Members will be able to create their own social groups without needing them manually added by an administrator.
There will be a page with a list of all the groups (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/blog_attachment.php?attachmentid=306&d=1218645306), with categories and more

The old clubs will be converted into Social Groups when this happens, which should be fairly soon. There will likely be limits set on who can make social groups and how many can be made. Obviously, we don't want new members to be able to create two dozen groups - that would make things needlessly crowded. :rolleyes:

Are there going to be any sort of limits on what people can do regarding social groups? If there's no moderation I can see that getting abused a bit...

Well, obviously something with a point would suffice. Stuff like say an "I Love Chocolate" group would be good, or something to do with RPGs. Stuff like, "I love rainbows on rainy days in April" is pointless, really.

Again, I think it sounds really good. Dibs on the chocolate one to, but I think we should have a topic where we put done suggestions for groups, then we have a vote, but your not aloud random ones like :
"Wants to kill Barney" club, even though that would be a club I would join :P Things like: "Intersted in *a particlular author i.e. J.K. Rowling*", somthing that would help the community...

The Jonas Brothers only have as extensive a fanbase as they do because almost all of their fans are fangirls who think they're hot.

Yes, there will be limits. And probably rules for what groups we can or cannot accept.
