View Full Version : Update on where we stand...

So I spent about half an hour tonight putting all the accepted submissions thus far into a single document and formatting them--very roughly--to the book size we'll be publishing in, each story and poem starting on its own page. We currently have 28 pages of content, which is rather surprising. This is the rough cut, obviously, and doesn't include copyright pages, the blank pages required by the ISBN people, or table of contents (that's all probably around 40 pages including the 28), plus, perhaps, a small biography section where people can learn about our writers (say, 4 more pages). So, at most we're at around 44 pages and that's really nowhere near enough. We are still receiving submissions, though, and hopefully we can fill up this issues quickly. I don't know if we'll get this out by December. That really depends on what gets sent our way.
So, we're not winding down on submissions at all. In fact, we can really do with more submissions...hint hint. I know Lykaios submitted something and Mercy has something with us (a rewrite), and of course some members from YWO are already slated to be in the first issue (Nyx, Croc, and Zombie...if I'm missing anyone, give a shout out).
So, that's where we stand.

How many pages do you actually need? Like 100 or something? I feel like this was mentioned at some point, but I'm too lazy to go find it.

I'd prefer to get closer to 200 pages, if possible. It makes the cost of the book more worth it to the buyer.

Isn't that more of a book than a magazine?

Technically. But so be it.

=/ Wouldn't it be easier to send out several cheaper, small issues than a big one that takes forever to fill up?

No, because there's no way to make smaller, cheaper issues. 100 pages would be about $9.00, whereas 200 would be $11.00. Nobody is going to pay $9.00 for a 100 page magazine when they can get other magazines for cheaper. We just don't have the luxury of a large amount of subscribers so we can buy in bulk.

I wanted to submit something but I never had the time to fully finish a story. Well, I've got some, but I gotta check 'em again. The MAIN thing I wanted to post was a poem, but I think it was too long according to the rules. It's posted here on the site called "The End of All Things."
Can you give me a quick recap on who/where to sent a submission? I haven't been active lately due to college and I want to get connected here again.

Nice. How many of them are actually coming from people on this site, and how many are from the open submissions option?

I think 2 or 3, but I haven't looked at them all, so I can't say for certain.

What ever happened to this?

Still working on it. Getting closer to having the issue filled. Probably will close submissions in January and begin formatting the book for publication either late February or in March. That's the hope.
Don't worry, we're still working on it! It hasn't been forgotten. We still have submissions coming in!
