Nooo! It's one of the most fantasy-oriented forests in the world!

Do something, Imelda! :(

It's been like that for decades, Andrew. :p But it is the most beautiful forest in the world (yeah ok, so I've only seen two ) and it deserves to be larger than it is. It can never be made what it was, though. Too much has been built around it, not only where today's Nottinghamshire is, but also up into South Yorkshire. Where my dad lives, for instance, used to be the top of Sherwood, and now it's a good half hour drive on the motorway before you even reach the Nottinghamshire boundary. No way could we afford to have all that farmland and housing reclaimed. Personally I'd rather flatten half of Worksop, Mansfield, and large portions of Nottingham (mankier towns I never did see) and replace it with forest, but I don't think the inhabitants would be too happy. :p

They're disgracing the name of Robin Hood. :(

Do something, Imelda! :(

Ah, yes, Imelda can do much more than Shadow, who, by the way, lives closer to the forest than her. :glare:

This goes on a lot. Sherwood is a minor concern, I am concerned majorly on the rainforests, which are suffering ten times worser than Sherwood.

I constantly see forests being cleared where I live. They recently bulldozed this big area to make room for a shopping center, right across the street from another shopping center. They also want to clear this farmland on my street and put up 40 new houses (which would basically double the number of cars on the road). And this main street near my old high school is getting crowded because of all the apartments they're putting all over it. It just really annoys me.

Cool, another guy from Chavsville. :approve: Doncaster is a shithole, so I hate living there... and Imelda told me something about South Yorkshire that makes it really the place where Robin Hood was based, not Nottinghamshire... ask her, I can't remember it.

I don't live IN it, I live in a village called Fishlake near it. I go to town every week on the weekends to buy stuff, so I see plenty of what Doncaster has to offer.

Shrike125
11-05-2007, 05:12 PM
oh, i live in stainy near fishlake. lol and i know that Stainforth is a chav town, i am not a chav lol

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 05:14 PM
No offence, but I hate Stainforth. Surprisingly, Fishlake is also quite chavy, even though it's considered a "rich area".

Imelda
11-05-2007, 05:20 PM
I have never heard of either of those places. :p

But yeah: Robin Hood came from Barnsdale, which is above Doncaster. All the oldest ballads have him located there, it was only the newer (less accurate) ones that moved Robin to Sherwood. Nottingham stole him. :p

Anyway, I live in Rotherham, so I'm sure neither of your hometowns can be that bad. :p Although Doncaster is a dump. I got lost in there the other week and it was terrifying ...

wow never heard that lol, thanks for the info...

You can't see any forests from my house. Roads, trees, lawns, cars, bleh. No forests. However, I have friends that are living in "developing" neighborhoods, and it's positively awful.

THE MACHINES MAKE HUGE BANGING NOISES AND THEN THEY EAT YOUR ICICLES!!!

Maybe we can write letters to um, someone, to support Sherwood? x.x

Imelda
11-05-2007, 08:24 PM
I'm tellin' ya, it's too late, people. :p If the profitable legend of Robin Hood can't save a forest, no amount of letters or protests will. :(

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:28 PM
No it's not! We have to be optimistic and stuff! We can become terrorists! Or vandals? Like in Hoot?

I hope the government isn't monitoring YWO.

....

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 08:30 PM
Has Greenpeace stepped in to protest? If not, I'm very surprised they haven't.

Imelda
11-05-2007, 08:41 PM
Greenpeace are stupid ...

Ok, we could gather all YWOers, and Robin Hood fans ... and anyone who's ever watched/read about him :p and just camp out in the forest and plant trees. It'd be fun.

Despite your sarcasm, Imelda, I think it would be a good idea. Well, a fun idea, not a good idea. We'd probably be arrested, but oh well. Plus, there'd be just you, me and Lewis, seeing as we're the only English people on this site.

Shrike125
11-05-2007, 08:45 PM
lol it would be the only time i have been arrested lol, that would look good on my record..." arrested due to protesting outside Sherwood forest" lol

Imelda
11-05-2007, 08:45 PM
No, we'd have to import Car, and Andrew and Shaun and it'd be fun. Let's do it this weekend, and then we can all stay for three weeks and finish NaNo together. XD

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:46 PM
Yeah! I would totally miss all these school projects!

-goes to look at plane ticket prices-

I want to be Peter Pan now. Then I could fly there.

lol this week, i could never get out of my work schedual to get down there lol, i am fully booked with coursework and revision lol

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 08:48 PM
If I missed three weeks of school, I'd fail all my subjects. I have to write out twenty pages (not on computer) of a Romeo and Juliet essay for my English Literature assignment. Now, is Sherwood forest more important than my future? :P

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:48 PM
Oh--wait--I have a soccer game. And a team party. Can't miss any of that. x.x

The weekend after the next?

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:52 PM
I feel bad about it now. This is insane.

Stop SNIFFLING!

...pretend this pillow is you. -shakes pillow-

What if--we all wrote stories about Sherwood and Robin Hood, sold them, and used the profit to save the forest? That would make use of our abilities! xD

Imelda
11-05-2007, 08:56 PM
Well I already have one and a half books on that very topic, so OKAY! :D I'll let you people catch up with me while I eat parkin and get scared of fireworks ...

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:58 PM
Wait--Nikara is about Sherwood forest? o.O

Say--I could name one of my forests "Sherwood". And horses (like Imelda) would never die in it! It would be the happy forest! But then, um, people would come, and they would start cutting down the forest, and everyone would be sad. But then the cruori come and eat those people, and everyone is happy again! It's perfect!

Guess it's just me, then ... *Sniffle*

Are you being serious about this, Imelda, or are we all living in sarcasm world here still?

Imelda
11-05-2007, 09:45 PM
Sarcasm world, Shadow. Sarcasm. :P

And no, Nikara isn't about Sherwood forest. Before Nikara there was the wild and wonderful days of my Robin Hood novel. So I'm well-acquainted with everything Sherwood. :D

Carraka

o.O A Robin Hood novel! Can I read it? xDD

jordanisonfire

i would have i would have loved to do it lol

Imelda
11-05-2007, 09:49 PM
Umm ... sure you can, Car. If you want to realise what truly awful prose looks like and be glad you're not that bad and clueless. XD It reads like mediocre fanfic with a major Mary Sue for the MC ...

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:54 PM
If I lived anywhere nearby, I would have actually considered it. o.O

And yesyes! I want to read it! I'll even let you read my last novel--maybe.

The only reason I'm for preserving this forest is because it's historical. Otherwise I wouldn't care. That has nothing to do with me hating trees or whatever, the complete opposite. We plant more trees than we cut down, especially in America. There are more trees today than there ever were before. Why? Because we don't let the forests burn down when there is a fire, which, in the real world without human intervention, vast portions of forest would burn down and continue to burn down. But we put a stop to them, so, we save millions of trees every year by doing that. Every time someone cuts a tree down--a logger I mean--they have to plant either 2 or 3 new ones...I don't know which it is, but it's a law in the US. So, we have plenty of trees and we're not going to run out.
But because this is Sherwood, I want it preserved due to historical importance. Just as I would want rain forests protected because they are amazing places that are relatively unique environments. Sherwood is important, it deserves protection and growth where it can be given it.

Imelda
11-06-2007, 02:00 PM
All forests should be preserved! Sherwood has popular historical significance, but so do hundreds upon hundreds of others. So get yourself down to Sherwood this weekend, or else. *insert mad smiley, because I don't know what the shortcut is on here ...*

jordanisonfire
11-06-2007, 05:27 PM
I thought we were being sarcastic about going over the Sherwood to meet each other, now you're saying we should? Make your mind up!

Shaun
11-06-2007, 05:56 PM
If that's the case then we're all out of jobs. We need to cut down trees to make paper and we need paper to make books...so...yeah...

Imelda
11-06-2007, 08:23 PM
I was only talking to Shaun, Shadow. :P And I have entirely other reasons for that ...

I'm not against chopping trees down, but I am against the systematic destruction of forests and the green belt. Trees are a renewable resources--forests aren't.
