So, after having researched and researched and researched and researched we've decided to stick with Lulu as our printer. Financially it is the best option--we can keep the magazine at a lower price this way, which is good, because I don't like the idea of charging ridiculous amounts of money).

However, Lulu has three publishing options, and currently has a deal going on for one of the options. All the options are:

1. Publish w/ Lulu (with their logo on the spine) and it's only listed on Lulu.com (free always)
2. Publish w/ Lulu (with their logo on the spine) and have it listed on Amazon, etc. (currently free)
3. Publish w/ Lulu (but not with their logo, but one we can choose to represent us as "publisher") and have it listed on Amazon, etc. (not free, but not much more than $100)

So, I'm curious what you all think on this issue. On the one hand, we save money with the first two options and with #2 being free we can get the mag listed practically everywhere. However, the magazine will be marked as having been published by Lulu, rather than published by whatever we would call it. But it's free...
Or we could publish w/ Lulu and create our own little "imprint" if you will, which would have it's only little logo on the side and would be labeled as "published by blah blah". That's not free, but it's not too expensive.

Do any of you have an opinion on what you would rather have? I personally would like to not have the Lulu on the side, but what about you?

Alternately, if you don't want the Lulu on the side, what would you suggest for a publisher name for us (has to be a single word)?

Definately option 3. It just makes more sense, it makes the magazine a bit more independant.
As for a publisher name...how about YWO?

Eh, I like having some cool nifty name like Eos or Solaris or Harper Collins :P, or even Penguin...

Okay, so we're all in general agreement that we don't want Lulu's name on the book (it MIGHT be in the copyright section saying "printed by Lulu" or something, but we'll make it clear that Lulu is only our printer, not our publisher, which is entirely a different thing since some small presses actually use printers they don't own to print their books, but because there's an editorial process, it's legit :P, like for us...cause we're actually editing this and getting it in good shape so it doesn't look like shitake mushrooms).

Anywho!

There are so many spelling mistakes in the first post it's unbelievable ...

And it'd be really nice if you actually discussed this stuff with me first, you know. I am co-editor, not just a slush reader. :(

I did consult you and we'd decided to stick with Lulu as printing because MagCloud wouldn't be financially feasible. I mean, we could go MagCloud, but I prefer our members not paying a lot of money for a magazine that will have a low print run. We're not like the big magazines that print 50,000 copies and can charge $4.99 an issue. Unless I was mistaken, I was under the impression that we were sticking with Lulu.

Yes, but you didn't give me any other options. :p You made it sound like we could pay $100 and be in Amazon etc, or not pay and not be.
