If you google 'talk like a pirate day' and click on the website, it gives you the history of it.

As far as I can remember it weas some pirate party that some blokes liked so much they made a day of it on one of the bloke's wives birthday or something . . . That could be wrong though, I can't remember.

I haven't and won't celebrate it because: a) I've never heard of it; b) by the time the next one rolls around, I'll have forgotten about it; and c) it sounds pretty dumb to me! (No offense to staunch followers of it.)
