Okay, this is a contest for book reviews. The way it works: you read books, then you write book reviews for them in YWO's Book Reviews section (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/forumdisplay.php?f=8). And whoever does the most wins.

Fine Print:

You have to write a solid book review. It should include:

The book's title
Author's name
What the story is about (no spoilers)
Why you liked it or not
Your opinion on some of its literary details like characterization, descriptions, etc.

If it's not solid, it doesn't count. Here's an example (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=4), although four such paragraphs will be fine.

You can't submit reviews that you're written before September 14. They must be new.
You have to do at least two to qualify.
In the case of a tie, quality will be the deciding factor.
Deadline: October 10, 2008

First place: Two solid critiques. I will politely wreak havoc on two of your submissions.
Second place: One solid critique. Not as good, but you'll still get plenty of red marks.
Third place: A pat on the head, a tuna-flavored treat, and a PM with some sage advice.

Any questions, you can post them here or PM me. When you've done all your reviews and feel as though doing just one more would result in your doom, please post links to them in this thread.

The "h" key is right next to the "n" key. Give me a break. :P

Asking what "Other Place" is, is a legitimate question.

EDIT: Thanks for clarifying. And I'm editing here to not post below. Happy? (:

EDIT (again): I'm sure this isn't spam, but Andy seemed so angry that I was so scay-rud and I decided to edit my post instead, to not risk sandwich-posting.

-thumps flag into ground- I will review A Song of Ice and Fire. Therefore, everyone else should pick other books, unless ... they want to review the same thing as me ...

Which actually wouldn't be bad, as long as it's okay with the judges.

Note: to those of you who are doing this contest or want to write book reviews, we are accepting reviews for SBS Magazine. We'd like short (such as in Publishers Weekly) and long reviews (such as you might see in magazines or in book columns in newspapers). Our only condition is that the work needs to be relatively new (as in within the last year). We also accept literary criticism and papers that discuss aspects of literature (such as essays that expound upon the themes of a particular book, etc.). So, you know, if you don't win this contest you can always submit your review to SBS :P.

Random plug over.

We did discuss it. It's part of the non-fiction side of things. It's in the guidelines.
