For those of you familiar with Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, she's put the fifth book on hold after one of several distributed copies was posted online illegally.

Meyer concludes her posting by announcing fans that she has been left “too sad about what has happened” to continue working on the book and “so it is on hold indefinitely.”http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Fans_Left_to_Wait_for_More_Twilight_from_Stephenie_Meyer_23635.html

Wow. How unprofessional of her. I can understand she'd be upset, but it's kind of her own fault. She shouldn't have given that manuscript to anyone she didn't 100% trust ... and if she did, and they still did it, then she should damn well take them to court over it. This is just perpetuating the idea that copying over the net is ok and no harm comes from it. What a loser ...

Well, the clever part (might have been a different link) was that she gave a slightly different version to each of her friends. And when the one got online, she could tell whose it was. :)

Wow, what a lovely friend. Sorry, I wouldn't talk to that friend anymore. That's effed up.

What a horrible friend. That would really suck.

I heard about this a few days ago...it's just annoying to me. Since I'm not a fan, I don't feel any sympathy. It's only the rought draft, after all, and only twelve chapters of it at that! In my opinion, she's acting childish and needs to keep her stuff to herself instead of handing out rough drafts to her friends to giggle about.

...

I hand out my rough drafts. Here.

Ahem. From a writer's standpoint, I feel some pity for her. I think if I were published (like her) I would not be giving friends copies (even if each were slightly different), but ... that doesn't change the whole pity thing.

As a reader, I'm apathetic.

I don't feel sorry for her at all. It's her own fault, she deserves it if she's that stupid. She'll be more careful in future. And I'm even extra annoyed that we might have to have another stain across the bookstore shelves.

I'm angry it's on hold... But, it's her own fault... So... GRRR

I think she's actually.... kind of dragging it out more than she should. I mean, yes I'd be sad if it were me. But now she might not even finish it. And this is the one I was looking forward too.
She just seems like sort of a cry baby to not continue. Life sucks, maybe she doesn't realize that cause she gave her character everything she ever wanted. It's just something she should get over.

Heh, maybe she hired the guy to do it for media attention and to give everyone an excuse for her to take a break. :)

Ichi's right, I think she's shocked that unlike her phony characters, she doesn't get everything she wants

That sounds bad to say, but I've thought it too. ARG.

I doubt it, especially considering that she threw another hissy fit, and has now changed her mind to never writing Midnight Sun again. Apparently, what she has now of the script is up on her website for her fans to read "legally." Sheesh, what a baby.

Yes, I admit I am a Twilight whore.
This whole situation is extremely aggravating. I understand that she is hurt by the betrayal, but to put this book in hold indefinitely after releasing just enough to get fans is excited. Midnight Sun was so far the best of her works and it is incomplete. Gar.
She also planned on writing more histories to the characters that are far more interesting than Bella, but alas she is 'done' with vampires. :( to the max.

I'm really not that angry about it. I read it online before she made a response. Then I was pretty sure she released it to make up for the epic fail that was Breaking Dawn. Then I read her response and it made me sad. Maybe I'm just an oversensitive softie (like Smeyer).

No, it's perfectly alright. I may not particularly see it as the greatest, most original thing around, but I have more respect for it than another series that shall never be named in my presence (*cough cough* who's last book came out this past Saturday *cough cough*).

It was stupid of her to give out copies. And it would suck for that to happen. But, she shouldn't let that stop her from writing!!! She should just forget all about that bad friend and not let anything keep her from doing what she wants. this applies to everyone.
im an optimist, can you telll??

It's too late, the manuscript's already online.

She's probably going to realize what an idiot she's been in a few weeks, but there's really nothing she can do anymore. Twilight is over. Finally.

Yes, i do in fact. To SOME degree. More so than That-Series-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named-In-My-Presence. I have 0% respect for that.

I have to admit, I love Twilight. I was obsessed with it, bought the fourth in a midnight release, ect. I know it is no literary piece of genius, but it is just so addicting. When I read other, deeper books I realize how shallow the Twilight series is. I still love it though. It is like a 90's sitcom. You know it is really cliche but you just keep watching it over and over.
