I hope you like it here!
Critique before you post any of your work, and all that, and you'll be fine.
What genre do you write when you write short stories?

Welcome Brianna! I don't know anything about writing musical notes, but I know a great deal about writing lyrics. If that is what you are wanting help with, this info will help:

Make sure your lyrics--outside of the refrain--have a set rhyme scheme that you stick to. Also, the lines of the stanzas outside the refrain (the stanza which repeats itself in a song) should be iambic. This means that each line of each stanza should not only rhyme properly, but have the same amount of sylables in each line as well. I'd continue further, but as of yet I don't even know if the lyrical part of a song is what you were refering to.

Ok then :D

So as I said, each stanza should be iambic. Usually when writing lyrics to help establish this have breaks in each line after two sylables so you can easily see how many sylables each line has and can thus shorten or lengthen a given line accordingly.

Example:
(Since I'm a Metallica fan I will use a song of there's an example, I hope you don't mind)
("The Thing That Should Not Be"-Metallica)

Messen/ger of /Fear in /sight
Dark de/ception /kills the /light

Hybrid/ children /watch the /sea
Pray for /Father, /roaming /free

Now as you see with this original stanza, each of the lines have 7 sylables, so this stanza is iambic. 7 sylables is not neccesarily the amount of sylables you would have to use for a regular stanza, I'm just showing that this one uses that. And the sylables have to be the same amount in every regular stanza of the given song. Now for the refrain, the amount of syllables can differ from that of the regular stanzas, but it must still be iambic with itself. As for when the refrain occurs, generally there is one regular stanza in the song, then the refrain which stays the same throughout the song. Generally songs have 3 sets of original stanzas followed by a refrain or in other words:

Original stanza
Refrain

Original stanza
Refrain

Original stanza
Refrain

I hope this information is helpful. :)

just a short criticism, iambic does not reffer to syllables. Iambic refers to the scansion of songs and poetry. Iambic means one stressed syllable followed by one that is unstressed. The actual number of syllables is through the word Pentameters and such ((pentameters is a line or meter with 5 syllables, penta is the prefix meaning 5)).

Also, iambic is not the only way to write classic-style poetry, there is trochaic, and a few others that I can't remember the name of. Lyrics don't have to be iambic, I don't even feel they have to rhyme. Sometimes it comes out forced, although I do agree that in 99% of songs rhyming is necessary. Ok, other than that, welcome, have fun, I bid you adieu

No offense, but the emotion is of a queen, not a princess. Just saying.
And in regards to the lyrical thing I'd go with Alex's advice. He knows his stuff.:writing:

Welcome to the site Brianna! Shouldn't be hard for you to find help for song writing. Quite a few folks here delve into the songwriting. Bug Zombified, since he's our resident musician type at the moment.

If you have any other questions, feel free to bug me or Andy, or Zombified, or GeorgeMichael!
