Alrighty, didn't know where to put this but the common room seemed the best place, I have just posted a video on YouTube of me speaking in a British accent.(or what I think to be a british accent) I would like to know what all of my friends on YWO think about it. All Brits are welcome to comment. Please watch this.

No sarcasm. I couldn't do it, the accent I mean. I used to do a pretty good Cartman from South Park though... although that's not a very useful skill...

It's funny that you posted this thread. My parents and I were just talking about accents at dinner.

Phantom

Eh. Phantom. You disappoint me, dear. There were times during that video that you completely slipped.
Tsk, tsk.
We'll have to work on that, you and I.
But as I spoke in a British accent for a week at summer camp... I've had more practice than you.
And you of all people know that I randomly whip out my British-ocity and stun everyone...
NOT!
The stunning part, that is.

LOL! I should post a clip of blue and me doing an accent... we go on for hours it seems like. Ours is different though, maybe it's Welsh or something...

Oh. My. Gosh.

WE NEED TO DO A BRITISH ACCENT CONTEST!!!!!

Tee-heehee, this is gonna be fu-un!!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, Phantom, I voted sorta, but who's to say I'm a good judge?

Seeing as I'm one of the very few Birtish people on this site (as far as I'm aware, Imelda and I are the only ones) I'll say that your accent is a mix of british and american. You have the "american drone" (can't think of anything else to call it) but the high tones of the british women. So, I'll give you a few things to say that we Brits say to make you all fee a little more British:

Tip-top!
Cheerio!
Cricket is better than baseball!
Greetings, gents, how 'bout a nice warm lager?
'E claimed 'e was me father, 'e did! (Cockney)
Ripping good laugh!
Fellow!

FINALLY! A british person tells me my accent sucks, well not sucks, but isn't really british.

Random, you post a video on YouTube of yourself doing that and then YOU post a thread... I already knew what you thought about my accent anyway.

Thank you, Shadow.

Well, I am English and well, some of your words were convincingly British-sounding like:

What
But
Want
Yes
Later
Like it
Tell

But you slipped into American on words like:

English/British
Nationality
Something
International
Talking
Accent
Else

But it was quite good, though if you came over here most people would be able to rumble you on your American-sounding-ness. :P

you had me fooled! but i'm an aweful judge.
lol, at the last relay for life, me, naddy and her sister changed what accent we we using every time someone said 'i'm hungry' just to keep ourselves entertained all night. i got stuck in irish, naddy got stuck in bronx and her sister got stuck in southern for almost an hour cuz we all got something to eat... people stared. but we stopped caring at like, four in the morning.
british gangster? *shudders* i'm not going to lie, that sounds terrifying.

Lykaios

British Gangster? I don't think gangsters have their own accents, it depends on where they live . . .

. . . Or that's what I thought?

Can Americans do Welsh accents?

That'd be funny. :P

Phantom
08-24-2008, 08:40 PM
I'm sure someone can... Not me, never heard a welshman speak. Scottish would be disastrous, gah. Yes, British gangsta, it sounds... really white... I know racist.

Lykaios

Gangsters don't have an accent as far as I know.

I'd like to hear it. :D

jordanisonfire

There's no such thing as a British Gangster. Only chavs.

Lykaios
08-24-2008, 10:32 PM
Yeah, and they don't have accents either. It depends on where you live.

I'd still like to hear it though. A non-existen accent. :P

Phantom, when will you post it?

Phantom
08-24-2008, 10:43 PM
Soon, um it really just me so "whats up, yo? How you been, dog?" It sounds really stupid.

Lykaios
08-25-2008, 12:10 AM
Haha! Your British Gangster was so funny! And very American.

You said 'I'm a British Gangster' in a relatively okay normal British accent and then it sort-of went very American. :P

So funny though. :D

Phantom
08-25-2008, 12:17 AM
Thanks!

Lol! It reminded me of Renee Zellweger's accent. Pretty good though.. it sounded kinda australian to me. I dunno though ;)

I'm English, and I say it was pretty damn good.

Well, it does sound some good British, but some words "uncover" your American accent :P
such as YouTube, Stupid, etc.
The vowel u in this words is more like aw.
I'll record myself later and will show you lol.
I have a strong strong strong British accent.

Check the dates on threads and make sure you don't revive old threads. This thread has been dead since 2008.

Rofl that was awesome, you have a proper stereotypical English voice that all countries assume everyone who lives in our country sounds like. My accent is Yorkshire, farmer shit. xD

I was once in London for a University trip, and this girl who was serving me at KFC laughed at how I said gravy. :sarcasm:
