Do you guys hate it how there are soooo many vampire books out right now? I went to Barnes and Noble, and there was a huge shelf with at least 10 vampire novels/series. It's like, this huge bandwagon following the success of Twilight!!!! There aren't any good sci-fi books coming out because everyone's writing about vampiric romances!!! GRRR!!!:mad2:
(Actually, the biggest reason why I'm mad is that I'm writing a vampire story right now, and it's really good, but I want to hold it off until this fad is over and people won't skim over it and choose Twilight instead. Yeahhh... But still, doesn't it make you mad????)

Vampire books were in abundance before Twilight, same as after. It's always been a really popular topic to write about, and Meyer's vampire story isn't that original. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I see a lot of similarities between the Twilight series and the millions of other vampire books out there, many of which came out before Twilight was even thought up.
The main reason the topic is used over and over, is that you can put a tiny twist on the regular vampie tale, call it a story, and no one can say it isn't right. The facts, I mean.
Vampire books for teens may be more prominent, or easier to spot now that you've been exposed to the genre. Certainlty publishers/editors are seeing that vampire stories don't always have to be raunchy or erotic romance novels.
I loved Twilight the first time I read it. Same with New Moon and Eclipse. I have re-read it many times since then, and have started to notice that it isn't that great. The story is fantastic, but the actual writing... Not so great. A lot of the descriptions are repetitive, and Bella bugs me. It's popular because it gets people reading, those people who wouldn't usually pick up a book for fun. Sure, it phas a lot of other readers, people who LOVE reading, but books that are have better writing than this one aren't as popular. (Grr...)
(Rawr, please don't tear me apart for stating my opinion...)

I. Love. Vampires.
But I don't walk into book stores because I don't have the money.
I don't know, I obsessively read Twilight and obsessively read Anne Rice, but other than that, I'm wary of a lot of vampire novels because they Just Can't Compare.

Talk to random_writer about Twilight...
I really love that series...
Have you seen Dracula (the one with Gerard Butler in it)?

No. I don't get to see enough vampire movies; but I love 'em.
I liked Blood Rayne, for movies...

Sweet, this is stupidly random, but I am a notoriously random phantom...
Have you seen The Phantom of the Opera?
Oh, and there are totally good sci-fi books coming out... STAR WARS, duh.
Look into the legacy of the force saga very very good. Inferno is my favorite.

An awesome vampire movie is "Interview With The Vampire." Although it is about ten years old (or more), it's really good. It's not really scary, but it has an actual plotline.
As an added bonus, it has Antonia Banderas, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt in it... Brad Pitt looks especially yummy, as his eyes are (for some reason) a very bright blue-y green... Ah, preeeetty...
Sorry. I sound like such a girl, there.

I don't like Tom Cruise...
I love the books too much. I'd be scared of the movies. I've heard Queen of the Damned sucked hardcore.

I read Anne Rice.
I'm afraid to read Twilight because I'm scared I like it, and liking that book and GRRM at the same time would be blasphemy. Against my religion.
I've always wanted to watch the Anne Rice movies, actually. Just to see what they're like. I've never watched a vampire movie, after all. I might watch Twilight, on account of peer pressure.
LOTR Musical? -random-
Sweeney Todd? Fake gore bothers me.
Phantom? -love forever-
STAR WARS books? -gave up on them and not going back. gonna read classic sci-fi now-
This post? Over.

Carraka,
I don't understand why people don't like Sweeney Todd. I loved the story, and the gore wasn't THAT EXCESSIVELY fake. Just slightly excessively fake.
Twilight is evil and addictive and I read the first 2 books overnight and despise the third one's unfindability in my uncle's apartment.

On another note... Wicked was an extremely fantabulous musical.

That'sss why I'm not reading it.
Well, the gore did bother me, even though it was fake. But gore that's less fake doesn't bother me as much. Not sure why. I think I would prefer a stage production -- of stage productions, I've only seen maybe the first fifteen minutes (in videos), but the voices are really good.

Agree. Phantom is better, but Wicked grew on me after I got the soundtrack and memorized all the lyrics.

I shall give a suggestion then, Inferno, Sacrifice or Betrayal. Legacy of the Force, amazing series.

Yeah, okay. If I ever feel like picking up a Star Wars book again, I'll read those.
Unlikely, though when there's so much other stuff I really want to read.
On the other hand, tonight I might watch A New Hope with the family. My parents will both be seeing it for the first time, and I'm going to be laughing at them so much, because Star Wars doesn't seem to be something they would understand.

They're immigrants. Cut them some slack.
If they had watched it earlier than now, they probably wouldn't understand what the characters were saying.

Really, I like the ones in the adult fiction section better than the ones in the young adult because there seems to be more of a story other than romance. For example: 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King. <3 Overall, it depends on the theme, writing style and content for me.
Litharukia

Stephen King is <3 in general.
I liked Lestat.
I tend to waver. Sometimes I hate romance, other times I like it.

Well, being a vamire fan...a very big one at that. I'd have to say that vampires are a very interesting topic to write about. I've read a few stories, and while some were cliche, others were great. I've always wanted to write a vampire story, but I just don't want it to be the type of novel that people would look at and say "Oh, it's just another vampire tale."
So yes, I am a bit upset that people are writng about vampires to much, but that only thing we can do is come up with the next original twist.

Hey, what can you do? Modern vampire novels have pretty much ruined the literature. Twilight was the biggest. All the Gothic and Emo teenage girls drooling over this Edward Cullen guy (I haven't read the novels, but I've heard loads about him) instead of seeing a novel. Dracula was a masterpiece in my opinion. I wish I could also see the old film Nostferatu, seeing as that looks good, too. If you're gonna write about vampires, don't make it a trashy and cliché romance that's fraught with loads of death and tragedy and all that other crap.

Never liked vampires.
Zombies are my favorite horror monsters.
Vampires are too corny and over done. The same can be said for a lot of other monsters but vampires are the main target.
I've only ever read three- four vampire novels. Thats it. I tried to read Anne Rice but she disgusts me.
Thats how I feel about vampire novels.
What is with me and all these satirical ideas. I'm not a fan of vampire stories because I'm not a fan of fantasy in general, and the way it is overblown. I would totally write a story about a romanian vampire who defies conventional wisdom and sucks at what he does, but that would require dedication, something I'm not in the mood for having right now =p
but... yea... overall vampire = bad because easily clichéd

This is just the craze at the moment. We have to deal with it. Eventually it will die out and something else will become a hit. The way the publishing world works is in cycles. At one point people were scrambling to buy books about unicorns and faeries, and now they're buying vampire stuff. It'll probably change to some other obscure thing later on. That's just the way it is :P.

I've always loved vampires, even before Twilight. So I'm glad the craze has caught on, more vampire books for me :).
