Not much of one, but something I thought would be fun. The same games have trophies for achieving certain goals, how about something like that here?
There could be one for being a Spammer at more than 7.5 posts per day
A critic award for someone who gives 3 times more critiques than wokrs
Activity award for being on a certain number of days in a row
A Clutch Contestant award for being in the top 3 in a variet of contests
A Purple Heart for anyone who has/will donate money
etc. etc. I think it'd be a cool little fun thing to have. The awards could come with their own titles that could go under the avatar on each post or could be displayed in the profile somewhere. I'm not sure if its possibly, or how/if you could go about doing it, but just an idea that popped into my head. I could come up with some pretty wacky ones if need be.
EDIT: Bleh, I forgot to put the title as the suggestion. Thats my second suggestion, let me edit the title =p
EDIT 2: Bleh... I knew I had edited titles before. I had to go into advanced, regard me as tired and idiotic for the time being... =p

Oh, wow, I can't believe I didn't think of this along with this idea. How about ever month we have another type of award system. I've done this on all my old sites before, I have no idea why it just came to me now.
Every month we could have polls for most _____, most another _____, etc. etc. etc. The winners of each poll could get a few extra points, or something of the sort.
We just put up the topic saying "Who has been the most helpful member in the month of _________?" and then let people send their votes VIA reply in the post, with the topic creator keeping a tally. Of course random spam couldn't be aloud because it would be hard to find the votes, but this is just an idea. So, alongside to having awards based on site statistics, we could have awards based on community opinion as well.
Well, I'm happy to say that Alex's awards is not just a good idea, but also one that could easily be done. It turns out that our Statistics page can be reconfigured to count data for just the past XX days or so. So we could have "most referrals in the last month," "top thread starters in the past month," etc.
As for the user-voted ones, we could have a new section just for poll and announcement threads.
Again, this should be easy to pull off.

And on what basis are those awards given out on?
Shaun, don't be ridiculous. Awards aren't meant to drive people away. (And YWO isn't Other Place).
Here's one we could try. There's a page that lists all the awards, and they are also listed in the upper-right parts of peoples' profiles:

If we're going to do monthly or bi-monthly awards, maybe we could have a separate award for each year. Like, twelve "2008 most active member awards" and twelve more next year.
Statistics Awards (can be easily measured):
Most Active New Member (member with more posts than any new member in the last 60 days)
Top Referrer (member who referred the most people in the last 60 days)
Voted Awards (because once a month would be really hectic with the voting and all):
Best Critic: Person who gave the best critiques lately
Best New Critic: Person within last 2 months who gave best critiques
Achievement Awards (one-time only):
Things based on post count
Things based on donations/ buying stuff from the store
Promotion awards (like videos, etc)

Yea, I don't think most friends is really a good idea...
Perhaps we could have some bi-monthly serious awards with medals/trophies, and maybe a separate set of silly awards, just for fun? :P
