First Person or Third Person Narrative?

I am currently thinking of using my spare time to write a realistic fiction novel.
I am still in the planning stages and trying to figure out which narrative person to write it in.
First person: Writing as one specific person or character; I or We
Third person: Telling the story from all characters point of view; He, She, They

Obviously both have pros and cons but in general which do you prefer?

I think what it comes down to is what do YOU like.
What does it matter what everyone else likes, what do you like?
Some stories might sound better with a first person POV while others would not.
How do you tell stories best?

Well, I don't know about you, but I've been writing in third-person all my life. I've ventured into first-person before, like with letters and stuff, but never for anything very serious. The only serious thing I've written in first-person is the story I want to submit to $B$, but I hate really dislike the way it turned out.

To be honest, I've never really written in third person before but often like reading books in this narrative person. In class, I'm probably best at writing personal essays which are in the first person as I feel I can get all my thoughts and emotions out better in this way.
It may be handy to try the third person- you never know I may prefer it.
A good idea may be to write out the first chapter in both to see which suits best.

I write first person a lot. But sometimes I do third. It all depends, do you want to get into many peoples minds or just one. It's hard to write others thoughts when you're writing in first, except for you main character. I know Pibs (my sister) write in first and third in one story sometimes, like the Maximum Ride series.
