Summer Writing Contest

Well kiddo's, I thought of an idea to get some of you writing again.

Its pretty simple, and if this one goes well I shall hold another contest with a harder prompt.

Here it is.

Pick a song that you enjoy (any artist, any genre) and write a fictional story based on the song.

Simple enough right?

If you think you got what it takes, start writing!
The deadline is and will be strictly enforced to AUGUST 2ND.

Its not a lot of time, but its not a short amount either.
Its the summer, you've got nothing better to do. Why not have some fun with something you already enjoy?

The entries shall be judged by yours truly and the top three submissions will go up in a poll for your peers to decide who wins the contest.

For winning I shall see about getting free points for the new point system coming up and if that doesn't wet your whistle I will also be giving a free critique to the winner on any piece of writing they choose.

I believe I may write a story based on Franz Ferdinand's "The Fallen." Though, don't officially put me up; I have a lot of college stuff to do. If I submit it, I submit it. If I don't, I don't.

EDIT: Oh, OH! How closely related does it have to be to the song? Can you just take a theme, or do you need to use a couple of the lines.. ?

Its up to you.
I will look up the song lyrics and see how close it resembles the story. The more it does, the better it will look in my eyes. But as long as it entertains then thats fine.

Remember, its based on the song, so there has to be a few similarities.

I dont know how well it'll go though..maybe I'll just make a really sad story instead based on aThree Days Grace song.

@ Zomb: Is there a word max to the story?

No.
But if its really long and it gets in the top three, your peers might not read it all...which puts you at a disadvantage.

But no, make it as long as you wish.

Sorry, Zomb. While playing baseball last night, I tripped over my own shoelace (skills) and fractured my arm. My sister is typing for me, because when I try, it takes half an hour to come up with a sentence. It would seem that I can't write a story at the moment.

I was going to write off of "The Truth About Heaven" by Armor for Sleep. Or "The River" -- Missy Higgins. Or ... "Shake It" by Metro Station. Ha. Now that would be interesting.

If you miss the deadline then you are out of the contest, deadlines are made to keep people in check and its not fair for those who are done to have the deadline pushed back.

Japanese songs are fine, as long as you send me the lyrics or post them with the song. I am not going to go look all over the web for them.
