Happy because I know what happens but not happy because it's over.

I picked other, because it really depends on how series end.
But I can tell you that before the last book, I begin freaking out about whether it will be "good" enough. I was so relieved that Harry Potter's last book was good enough that I cried. o.O

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Car, exactly so.
Except...the seventh book was good until the last chapter. The very last chapter. It made me shake my head in disgust.

I thought there was too much camping in the seventh Harry Potter, and all my favourite characters died except Luna . . . :(

After a series of books I normally am happy that the conclusion was reached and am usually satisfied with myself for having read the whole series.
Most of the time the series I read usually leave a mark on me. They inspire me to go write, to make my own stories up. They are very motivational.

Usually when I'm about to finish a series, or am on the last book, I'm really excited, and can't wait until the end. But when I finally read the last page, it's almost a let-down because it's over.

I picked sad, but really, more often than not, I'm irritated because it was an awful ending. xP Of course, that probably has something to do with the fact that most series (the plural of series should NOT be series!) I read are too complex and have too many subplots to really be able to end well.
It really depends, like Carr said, on how the series ends.

If I really love the series, I'm sad. I really loved reading Harry Potter, and when it ended, I was sad. The same can be said for other series I have read from start to finish. Crappy series usually don't get finished for me.
Is it only me who *always* cries? HP, The Old Kingdom, His Dark Materials, Black Magician, Forestwife, that one by Marianne Curley that I don't know what it's called ... I think I cried at Sally Lockhart as well. Narnia! I cried so much at that. :(
You ....cried...at...Narnia?!
I cried for all HP books. I even cried at the beginning of deathly hollows for Madeye. I cried while reading His Dark Materials as well..[WILL!!!</3] , I'm almost sure I cried for Sally Lockhart too. ^^
I once cried at Goosebumps book that had time travel in it. XD
I believe that's something only you can do:P

I haven't even cried for GRRM, and I love those characters to death.
Or somewhere close to death -- otherwise I guess I would cry.
EDIT: Please don't read the below spoiler in Imelda's post if you plan on reading GRRM. She ruins two enormous plot points, and I would actually cry if they were ruined for you.
Because I cried when I ruined a plot point for Imelda. Literally.

No ...
You spelled the second name wrong.
And I don't understand why I didn't cry either ...

I'm a little torn. In books I'm generally happy, but it really depends. I never want Harry Potter to end.
However, I know that Twilight and Death Note can't last forever, so I'm sad because I want it to go on, but no that it can't.
meh, I'm just weird like that.

I checked thoughtful, because when I read I get really into my books and when it finally ends it takes a while before my mind gets the memo that its over....so I usually spend a good hour or so going over the story in my head.
But you guys are right....it really does matter how good the sieries is. I did read one seiries where the end was so good...but they killed my fave character on like the very last page so I was sobbing my eyes out for the next hour that I would normally think for.

I get very sad when I finish a good book/series because while I was reading it, it was like meeting all the people and becoming their friend and when I finish it I lose all of those friends and I know there are more books but it makes me wonder if I'll ever find as good of "friends" as them again.

It depends.
Harry Potter- Happy because the seventh was perfect to me.
Twilight- ...can I pick skull bashing, horribly angry?

I didn't want to finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because I'm a complete Harry Potter geek and I was completely gutted that it had to end.

I don't know. I chose sad because I hate it when a series ends. I was so sad with the Harry Potter books because I kept wanting to read it.

Whoa, Harry Potter fans abound! I was sad it had to end too, but I checked curious because that tends to be my reaction when I finish any book. I like to play with the characters a bit in my own way, imagine what could happen next, and I'll usually go back and read the book/series again (Because, what's the point in owning a book you're only going to read once?).

Usually thoughtful, because, no offense to those Twilight/Harry Potter, etc. lovers, I actually read books with substance. Books that make you think.
Happy because I know what happens but not happy because it's over.
This pretty much covers it for me as well.
But it does depend on how much I loved it and what happened throughout.
For example, in TV shows, despite being sad when a good one ends, I'd rather that it ends after less episodes, but good ones, than after a whole bunch of episodes and after it starts to suck so bad that I simply feel sorry for it. (hint: Scrubs, bigger hint: One Tree Hill)
As for the books, they usually end grander so I usually get more emotionally invested so it can strike me pretty bad hahahah.
But all in all, to quote a wise girl that once said this:
"Happy because I know what happens but not happy because it's over."

I cried a little when I finished Harry Potter, and I can't listen to Cyndi Lauper anymore without getting sad (I listened to her music while I read the Twilight series). I think I feel like I've spent a good majority of my time with the story and the characters, and then it's just gone. Plus, it's never as good reading it the second time. I just have to remind myself there's going to be another series out there for me.

If it's a good series I never want it to end. But when it keeps going I think. How many adventures can one person, group of people have? I get exasperated and I just wish it to end. If anyone has read the house of night from p.c. cast you'll understand my pain. It's 8 books and keeps going. I am scared it's never going to end but I have to buy them all. That's how I am. If I start a series it has to be the complete work. :D

I have to admit that I was a twilight lover. I stopped loving it when they became movies. Simple as that. Harry potter is a series I never want to touch in my life. First because I feel like I know everything about harry and second because I don't wish to spend another second with Harry Potter even if the books are better :glare:
