to all those who study !!
well here is my question that's been bugging me from sometime. why do I study? the anwser might be very simple but for me the question itself is tricky. we all study(most of us) and we try to score good marks but the fact remains why do we? we could sit in our homes enjoy life with friends or read books(novels) all the time and yet we study.
I thought for a while on the title and said to myself that i study for my parents. So that they could be proud of me and then I decided to ask someone else(my cousin) she said that there are two kinds of people on earth one, those who study cause they are told to and second, those who study to earn money in future.I got confused because I thought that people study to gain knowledge as well as all the reasons mentioned above.
At last i arrived on the conclusion that i must ask other personages as well so i bring to you my question WHY DO YOU STUDY?
probably after reading your views i would realise why I study or I could simple understand that most of us study to become rich.
So please reply and give a reason for your studing be it just because you see your sibling studing or anything else.

I study because my mommy would whoop me if I don't.
But in all seriousness, because my parents pay for my education I want to get good grades to make my parents proud and to thank them for all they do for me. Also, I study because it will have an impact on what sorts of jobs I can get and how fast I graduate.
I take classes in subjects that I'm interested in, but gaining knowledge really is a secondary goal, though I hate to admit it. I get good grades, but I'm no scholar.

I study for my mother.
She's worried that she won't have enough money to put me through college. Therefore, I have to get straight-A's and full scholarships. Then, we'll worry about college grades, and what that will mean on job applications, and then we'll worry about money itself.
Except I want to be a novelist, and novelists have a very different sort of job application -- one that happily does not require full scholarships and straight-A report cards.

I study because I want to be a teacher and I want a good job and because I happen to really like college. But I'm weird.

I personally don't think studying is that fun. It's too structured for me. I love college, though... mainly because I enjoy the independence and hanging out with my friends and free time to do what I want when I want to. Also, a lot less busy work. I'm actually better at college than high school. I've maintained a 4.0 for a year so far. In high school I got more Bs.

I actually don't study all that much. If it's a big exam, and I'm worried, then I'll put in five-hours straight. I only did that twice last year.
Otherwise, it's skimming the material once before bed, skimming it once in the morning before, and then cramming five minutes before.

I find if I study, it just confuses me more then the test would have without studying.
Even though, I did study the bio portion of Science 10 this morning before my final. I was pretty much good for the Physics, Chem and Enviromental portion, but bio screws me over.
So, I study when I'm extremely unsure over something.

...Study? Who said anything about studying?
No really, if it's anything I know (and that qualifies most of my classes), I really won't bother to study at all. Occasionally, I'll look back on something, like if a test is on a textbook section I read a week before, or if I'm reading the notes for the first time because the class is ridiculously stupid and I didn't need to before. And I freak out right before major english in-class commentaries, because I'm awful at timed writing, except you can't really study for those anyway.
In general, I'm a perfectionist, and this whole 4.0 concept is something to strive for as an asthetic standard (I'm now back to saying I have a 4.0 unweighted...if you round to one decimal place, and I've got a 4.6 weighted). Plus, I'm just ridiculously competitive, and I want to be better than everyone else. :]

I study (well, I go to college, but I dont actually "study" unless Im about to fail something, and it usually tends to be too late) so I can get a decent job I like, with decent payment so I can buy books/watch movies, bring my girlfriend to a nice place, and by having an ok job, with good payment and not too many hours, I will have free time to maybe finally try and dedicate myself to writing
I study so I can get a good job in the future. Classes where I slack off are usually the ones where I cannot ever foresee it helping me in any possible way. :)
I also study because a lot of it can come in handy for writing. Literature and history are obviously helpful. But the more obscure subjects can be as well. I intend to major in computer science, and I was previously working on a story where there was magic very similar to a programming language - it could be tested and edited.

That would be my secondary reason.
Except I spend more time analyzing the people in the class than the class itself. People are just more interesting.

I really like your reason for studing probably it's right to study to get to know the subjects and learn history and other stuff which can be useful in writing

I study for the sheer love of knowledge and so that I cannot be left in the dark and become an ignorant teenager.

I agree with Carraka. I only study to maintain a decent image in school and to avoid getting kicked out of home.

agreed, although since I can easily recreate male characters, I tend to analyze the female personalities in the classroom instead. I swear its strictly professional.

I have several reasons.
1. I think it's fun (As long as it's not math study)
2. Since I currently have a handicap keeping me out of school, I feel I have to study in order to keep up so I don't fuck up later in life.
3. It inspires me to write
4. Once again, it's fun. I just like to learn new things wheneever I can.

Studying = Knowledge, Knowledge = Success, Success = Money
Kinda self explanatory. But we study so that later in life we'll be successful and make lots of money, so we don't ever have to worry about weather or not we can pay that next bill. and I also believe knowledge is power, so I mostly do it for myself.

I don't study. I believe it will come to me in a dream like state (or something) and I just finished all my exams without so much as opening a book. And they were all EASY!
Honestly I almost think that I try to not study, I avoid it. But things come easily to me so maybe I don't need to. Although I'd do so much better in school if I did.
