Hi everyone,
I just joined and I thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I am 12 years old and I love to write (mostly short stories and poems). I hope I've came to the right place!

Hey, welcome to the site Nyx. If you don't mind my asking, how'd you find us?
In any case, this site is open to people of all ages really, except old people since it would be weird to have teenagers and college age kids hanging out with 55 year old dudes. But yeah.
And, I do just want to make sure that you understand that at 12 you likely have a lot to learn as far as writing and style. Given that, when you do post here, and you get a lot of critical advice, don't think of it as people being mean. Remember, we all used to be or are where you are now. So they're trying to help. Some of the advice you might really enjoy, and some of it might not be of much help. In any case, the goal is to be helpful to you here. So, just be patient and realize we're not being mean, we're just digging in :). You're probably in Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the writing life right now. It takes a while to get to Phase 3...

Does it sound insulting? It's not meant to be! I'm just trying to make sure that the younger members realize we're not being mean when we really dig into a story, we're just trying to help!

I am deathly afraid of you. I'm afraid that you won't accept our critiques, even when all we want to do is help you to grow as a writer. However, you're using proper grammar/punctuation/capitalization/spelling, and your username is cool. Let's be friends.

I'm so sorry! I really didn't mean it that way. I just know that I got really intimidated when I first started writing seriously when people critted my work. It all looked like they hated it or me...
So I just meant that you shouldn't be discouraged. Carraka got it right I think.

No no, Shadow, I was basing this off of the last member who was around the same age that took the crits everyone gave very poorly and thought you all hated her and were being mean. I didn't want this member to feel that way...
I don't know how you write Nyx, I just based my assumptions off of common writing tropes in your age range. You might be far advanced from anyone else your age, or you might not, or you could simply need a little more time to really develop your craft. So, I wasn't trying to be mean or rude to you or anyone else Nyx. Not in any way. I want your time here to be productive!

WOW, I didn't see this, HOWDY HOWDY HOWDY!!! I didn't join a site til I was like 14, just cause I never really got online til then. But I started writing at 12. I can't wait to see some of your work!!!! Welcome again, if you have any questions fill free to pm me. I'm TN by the way, or Cowgirl, which ever you wish to call me :D.

No worries, I'm not offended. I am used to criticism though since I joined my first writing website two years ago but then it closed down and I haven't joined anything like that until now. But I'm looking forward to spending time in YWO!
