A while back (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=349) I showed you all that there was a new version of this forum's software being released. Well, it's been released, and since you all are okay with the possible loss of the icon store, we're going to upgrade soon.

But this post is to show you what the site will look like. Unfortunately, the site's current look is not compatible with this new version. Luckily, there is one which the entire staff felt matches the site's current feel, and we've found a site which already uses it:

Here is its main page (it's a Greek site, so ignore the words):
http://www.greek-chater.com/forum/index.php?langid=1

Profile pages:
http://www.greek-chater.com/forum/member.php?u=4

Thread pages:
http://www.greek-chater.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2975

Please keep in mind, it's not perfect. We'll make a new logo, maybe make it less box-y, use a lighter blue, and other things. But for the most part, would you be okay with using this different look?

Those point/level things are specific to that website, right?

Ummm ... I have to point this out. Sorry.

It looks like one of those generic blue forum designs that we all thought were dull and didn't want a few months ago.

But whatever, it's your site you're making generic, so what do I care?

Well we couldn't AGREE last time we tried to discuss this. If anyone can find a style that they think would be much better for the site and a great bunch of you agree, then you bet we'll consider changing the site to that style. So fine some 3.7 styles you like better...if we can come to some sort of agreement, then so be. Right now we're just trying to get a style that is similar to what we already have...

Edit: There's also the problem of finding FREE 3.7 skins, by the way. Seriously, we're up for suggestions, but I don't know what else you expect us to do other than ask you guys to find something you all can agree on.

Okay, here are some free skins: http://www.minerskinz.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=34

If you guys find some you like, we'll discuss. We HAVE to come to a conclusion about it though. So whether that means putting up a vote or simply having some sort of general agreement, we have to pick and stick with one.

I'm sorry; I probably have a different perspective on the matter, being a semi-newbie and all, so I'm still settling in to this cozy, largish forum format. Honestly you can go ahead with any format you want - it's not like I'll be reluctant to visit. I have a bigger gripe with people who have a signature the size of a small city and yet who rarely post more than a paragraph of actual content whilst chatting.

I like the forum to be centered on the page like this one is, instead of adjusting its width to fit the browser window's width... but that's just my two illogical cents.

Shaun

We would center it like it is here. I don't like it spread to the edge of the page either by the way. It looks like crap. But that style lets you center it however.

If you have any preferences or you like a particular style, do let us know though. Unfortunately we can't keep the style we already have :(

Colors are not a problem. I fully intend to make all sorts of colors available to use, including one that looks similar to the current one.

Dimensions are not a problem, either. I agree that having a border on the sides of reasonable width would be nice as well.

And no, Carraka, those bar graph things are an addon, not standard.

The real questions that should be asked are: do you like the arrangements of that style? The light-colored bar at the top? The way things are arranged on the profile page?

For example, here's what that style might look like once we mess with it a little:

See where we're going with this? Colors aside, would you like this style?

Hence why I wanted to bring this up with everyone. This is sort of a big deal that is unavoidable. We need to upgrade to protect us from annoying spammers, and eventually we'll have to upgrade anyway, even if we wait now. But upgrading means we can't keep this style OR the bookstore thing. Many of you expressed you'd miss it. But how much? Should we replace it with something else that is fun? I dunno. Ugh. I hate this!

I like that one too. It looks all spiffy and new-ish, but still similar enough to the old one not to bother me.

(The sole purpose of this post was to be my 50th post :] )

Just to be devil's advocate, what about these then:

http://www.forum-lance.com/index.php?styleid=66
http://wrestlingclique.com/index.php
http://vbstylewizard.com/forum/index.php

We can lighten them up, darken them, whatever. Doesn't matter, just the general feel of the sites themselves :P

I love that first one that you put up Shaun!!! Such a nice shade of blue!!!

I added more by the way :P, two more actually.

Nyx

I like most of them, it doesn't matter anyway to me, because as long as YWO stays YWO and the colours don't become drastically ugly or the sizes drastically large or small: I'm staying.

EDIT: Ooh, look at this one: http://www.forum-lance.com/index.php?styleid=67

I like that one.

Shaun, I think you're blind. Would explain why you think I'm beautiful. :p

Goodness me, you two seem more frisky nowadays.

Anyways, I really don't mind the new styles as long as there's room to be 'versatile', as in if something goes wrong here, we can fix it easily AND meaning that a few options will be offered to the members, I dunno, like multiple site skins.

I'm an easy person to please ^^

Shaun's recent post - I like the first two a lot. I noticed that writing tablet-style one too, Nyx, but frankly I don't think it looks all that good. Still, it would be awesome to have a forum that looks like something related to writing.

I agree with Nyx. I mean, change it too much and I might not be able to find my way around without a little exploring first :P, but I'll work with anything you pick.

We're not going to change the site drastically. The only big thing that will happen is going to be visual, but we intend to keep the navigation basically the same.

And I don't like Sosumi because it puts me to sleep...the object of YWO is to make me interested and happy. I like being awake when I read the stuff on this site. :P
