Young Writers Online was generously given a constructive critique (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=159976) for its layout and design. One of the things mentioned in the review was its style of buttons, that they look weird:

So I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. I found a possible alternate style we could use, if everyone approves of the idea. Or, if you don't like either of them, you can go to this site (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=123) and see if any other alternatives interest you.

Possible alternative (the last two are for the multi-quote):

I like theses buttons. But that is just me.

I agree. These ones are fine, quite unique.

The buttons the site currently has are weird, and they go away from what average forum users are used to, but the positive thing is 1) they are unique, and 2) they don't go far enough away from what the average forum users are used to to hinder them when using the site.

The current buttons collide with the banner, though. The banner is kind-of sweet, and the post buttons are opposite of that - they're rigid in style. I think they should be changed for that reason if you want an easy-on-the-eyes site.

I personally like them.

Okay, that's cool. Just wanted your input.

They're from a style that's Japanese, which explains why the letters might look a little weird. I remember thinking they were weird at first, but I've grown to like them.

EDIT: Thanks, fantom. The critique also mentioned the logo. I guess that's next on the agenda.

I didn't say the letters were weird. I said "rigid" when referring to the type. I think I explain why I think they're weird, or maybe I don't. I have to look. Weird, to me, is out of the ordinary, and it's what it says in my dictionary. :)

I posted that first part before I saw your post, phantom. You posted it when I was still typing.

That's cool. And it's "fantom"--Middle English.

Fantom as in ...

Le Fantome de l'Opera!

-too lazy to insert accents-

Anyway, I like this layout just fine. The buttons -- they're a bit difficult to read, but you can keep them because they're unique if you want to. -shrug- They actually make me think "sci-fi", if that's an effect you're going for.
