Soooo, I'm just sorta going on a whim here to post this, but I was thinking, wouldn't it be sorta cool if YWO had a weekly podcast? It could report on writing news, book reivews, tips for writing, and...stuff. I know we already have all that stuff on the site, but what if someone has a busy life, and they wanna keep up but don't have time to go over the site everyday? They just download the podcast and listen when they can!
So, um...what do people think? I'm sorry if someone else already suggested this. I didn't mean to steal someone's idea!
Just a thought...

Podcasts are awesome, yes, but does YWO really have the time/materials to do that? Poor Shaun and Imelda have a whole magazine to get started.

Well, me and Naddy have been talking about this, and we were saying that if no one else had their heart set on the job, we would be more than willing to take on the role. We wouldn't be able to give very constant updates (time and geographical distance you know), but my brother has some pretty fair recording equipment for his music that I'm sure he'd let us use.
Just a thought, but we'd thought it would be worth a discussion.

Yo Yoky! Thanks for posting! Yeah, see - we wouldn't have to take the job (goodness knows I have some issues with talking too fast when I get excited - but I swear I'd work on it!) but we could...this way Shaun and Imelda don't get bogged down with extra work, YWO gets a podcast, and everybody else gets chocolate ice cream! (well...maybe not that last one...)
It's a good idea, I just don't think it's the best time for it. It'd just be too much if a magazine and podcast launched around the same time.

Wait... You two are related too?
YWO is being taken over by siblings!

It's an idea we are thinking of doing, just not right now. The problem with podcasts is that to produce quality material takes a lot of time, a bit of money, and a lot of patience. We do want to do a podcast, just not at the moment. I think we can definitely do a podcast in the future, though. I want to do one. I just can't do it by myself and there are a lot of complications with doing it with multiple people who aren't in the same locale. It's really hard to get quality sound.
Edit: One thing I want to do with a podcast is have real authors come in and give talks, advice, etc. I know someone who I think would be more than willing to do it, but I don't know a lot of others. It's hard to get these things if you don't have a significant web presence. I'm just now getting that web presence. But it takes time.

The thing about podcasts are that whoever is speaking has to have a good speaking voice. I don't want to listen to lousy speakers. I get enough of that from "that guy" in class who always has the stupid comment, who always argues with the teacher, who always has to raise his or her hand to give a long, convoluted answer accentuated by articulated and unarticulated pauses... ultimately bringing the entire lecture hall to silence, thunderstruck by the sheer stupidity of what had been said...
Yes. If anyone does a podcast, it has to be from someone who knows how to speak and not be annoying when speaking. Like you'd clearly have to have auditions and judge recordings of peoples voices...

The problem with that is the people who get into the podcast have to have the financial means to get the proper equipment to do it. I don't want a podcast that has crappy audio quality.
That limits who can do the podcast. There is also the time issue.

Just to let y'all know, I have an awful speaking voice. Most if the time it sounds like I'm growling. In fact, I like growling. It's fun.

My voice sounds like a pig stuck in a blender. I do like to talk, though (just not in public) so that's unfortunate. But I'd love to work on a podcast! I'll just have to start actually downloading stuff from Apple to get it...
Heh, but I hope we can do it in the future. That would be really fun.

Not trying to sound like an idea breaker, but I think a podcast would be too much at the time. we should focus on the problems we have in front of us before we tackle new cocepts and plans. We already post-poned the YWO Blog because of business, and we also have to deal with the magazine. So yeah, maybe we should wait a while before do stuff like that.

Did I say something wrong?

No, you said something very right. :P It's just that the idea of a podcast has already been clarified as a future project. So, yeah.
Probably distant future, too - it's a big undertaking.

I expect we'll try to do it next year, or at the end of this year, but I can't guarantee that. It depends on a lot of factors: i.e. making sure we have the time and the abilities to do it.
The biggest thing to help with this is if you guys buy more stuff with our aStore or donate more money :P. The sooner we don't have to worry about hosting costs or anything else the better.
